Probably found out too late today to get an arm up. So we were shorthanded and still almost pulled out a win.

Dunno about Nick starting straight up, but I understand they're running out of arms this trip

Not sure what difference the starter makes, Pivetta isn't likely going 9. It's more about matchups. I'd rather see him continue to pitch in bulk relief, he's been thriving in that role.

If we cut him now, he would have a 6.55 ERA in both of his seasons with the Red Sox. 11 innings in each season! Looking at his career, how does he still have a job? He always gets hurt, and in the years he does throw 50 innings, his ERA is around 4.50. He is 33 at the end of the year. We have played 27 games this season and he has appeared in 11 of them. Enough is enough.

I should have made my son throw left-handed.

Didn’t he threaten to opt out in spring training so he got the job? I should make the same threat.

May the Lord bless and keep Joely Rodríguez, far away from us.
He didn't threaten it. He actually opted out. The Sox chose to add him to the roster rather than let him leave. I can understand why they did from a maximizing resources point of view, especially with Walter and Murphy starting the year on the IL. Probably time to move on now.

Yep. Not every experiment works out. I'd rather them call up Benetiz.

With Bernardino and Booser as lefties in the pen there's no real reason to keep Joely around. I'd like to see Bernardino move into Joely's current role as late-ish inning lefty.

Also, someone should edit the thread title, because Joely hasn't gone on the DL, he is still on the active roster, so it's confusing to see this thread title near the top of the page.
