I hope not.

What's not to like?  While interviewing X she name dropped the Sox LF "Allen Gomes".  It's early in spring training still but I think she has a high ceiling as an inadvertent comic reliever.

Looking through Ms. Duncan's previous experience - she comes to NESN,  having been the traffic reporter for an Atlanta station.
But she also did sideline reporting for the Atlanta Hawks.

Where is Naoko Funayama these days?

I'm aware of that.   I was wondering if NESN would go to her,  hat in hand,  and apologize for letting her go,   and ask her to come back as the Sox sideline reporter.

If they were to do that, which I very much doubt they'll ever do, they'd put her back on the Bruins beat and shift Jamie Erdahl to the Sox.  But since they have two relatively new hires in the fold already (Duncan and Davis) as well as Erdahl available after the B's season ends, I don't think NESN is in any hurry to go out and hire another new (or former) reporter for the Sox sideline gig.

One thing that would be OK - this MIGHT work - have three or four sideline reporters,  having different ones for each game or each road trip.    Erdahl,  Hextall,  Duncan,  Davis ... it's not going to impact ratings if we see four share the role on a rotating basis.

Dumping Naoko was a headscratcher - unless,  it was done to convey the message to others at NESN that "no one is immune"... and the broadcasting industry often commits actions that make no sense.

And send half our starting lineup into a slump?  No thanks.

Being the sideline reporter for the Sox is a more coveted job than that same role for the Bruins, right?

I can't see NESN promoting any of these other candidates over Jamie Erdahl. Dell's departure seemed rather abrupt (heaven knows why), so maybe an external search is underway, but unless someone new is brought in specifically for the Sox job, I'm convinced that job is Jamie Erdahl's when the Bruins are done for the season.

Why would they have waited though? Seems the end of the Olympic break would have been the perfect time to get someone new into the fold on the Bruins beat (Hextall?) and send Jamie to Florida for Spring Training.
