DOB 9/25/1995

Ranked as the #7 prospect in the GCL by BA in 2014

Surprised that this guy hasn't gotten his own thread started yet.  He's 19 and playing his first year of full season ball at Greenville.  Devers, Moncada and Chavis all probably have higher pedigrees but so far this year he's been right at the top of what is turning out to be a stacked Greenville team He was signed out of Panama in 2012. He's currently ranked as the sox #12 prospect by soxprospects with a description that profiles him as a potential major league regular as a plus defensive shortstop without much contribution from his bat.  Hopefully that description was based just on his first two professional seasons in the DSL and GCL were he put lines of 248/356/290 and 269/286/408 respectively; not bad, but not great.  Hopefully this year represents a real improvement since he's putting up a 295/354/510 line in just over 150 PA.  The concerns are that he's showing a pretty pronounced L/R split (192/246/365 v. 351/411/588) and that the increase in power might have also led to an increase in strikeouts, up to over 30% of his PA so far.  With that said though he's second in the Sally league in OPS while 2 years younger than the average hitter.  If the improvement with the bat is real and the defensive prowess continues we're looking at a definite top 10, maybe top 5 sox prospect by the end of the season.

From what I've read/heard on Sox Prospects, Guerra (and Rijo as well) is a guy who doesn't scout as well as his offensive line. The glove is clearly legit (though he's slower than you'd expect) but nothing stands out from a hitting perspective.

He's had a lot of success offensively so far. It'll be interesting to see how he does as he climbs the ladder. The glove is Major League quality for sure. If he can translate that success in AA, he's a really interesting prospect.

At the halfway mark Guerra's line stands at .276/.335/.490, which includes a team high .825 ops and 8 HR.  A tough 0-16 stretch in the last week brought down the numbers a bit, but hopefully the rebound in the last couple games (4-9, 2b, hr, bb) will continue into the 2nd half.   Guerra's first half gets him the nod as the southern division's starting shortstop in tomorrow night's Sally league All Star game.

The power continues to show up. Another two bombs today gives him 11 for the season. He's been on an absolute tear in July, putting up a line of.444/.458/.689. It's nice to see after a tough June. This brings his season up to. 298/.349/.504. Still striking out a bit too much at aprox 26% of his plate appearances. 3rd in the sally league in both hr's and ops.

Guerra has stayed pretty consistent all year. His total line now stands at. 296/.343/.494. There are also some additional signs of encouragement. His pronounced L/R splits from earlier in the year have begun to normalize and he's now putting up a respectable. 279/.315/.423 line against lefties. His strikeout rate has also decreased; sitting at about 20% since the beginning of June.
