I've got a new sensation: David Price's hand

So, lost in the brawl is the David Price situation where he left the game with "sensations" in his pitching hand. Right from the first pitch he didn't seem right. He did get a bit squeezed by the umps, but also couldn't hit the broad side of the barn. The cutter to Sanchez, which JD is still looking for, was an absolute meatball. Cora is saying that he's fine. No MRI scheduled and he'll try to play some toss on Thursday.

So what do we make of this situation; was something actually going on in Price's hand or were the "sensations" a face saving excuse for a guy who had no feel for the ball on a cold night and stunk up the park? At least it's nothing to do with the elbow, so there's that.

@ScottLauber

David Price will attempt to play catch when he gets to Fenway Park on Thursday. At this point, the Red Sox believe he will be fine. No further tests (MRI, etc.) are scheduled, according to manager Alex Cora.

The loss of sensation in his fingers has me worried about some sort of nerve impingement, but I'll let some of the actual doctors weigh in.

Unfortunately, it is quite possible the elbow nerve is acting up, which is causing the hand problem. It already has its own music:

You'll feel me coming
A new vibration
From afar you'll see me
I'm a sensation
I'm a sensation

According to Price he's had this before ..

"I didn't have any feeling in my fingertips," Price explained. "That's something I've felt before but it didn't go away (this time)."

"It's all right," Price said. "I'll play catch tomorrow and get ready for my next start."

"I had no pain, I have no pain," Price said. "Even when I came in and did all the stuff with the doctors, I still had no pain."

Price said his hand never warmed up.

"My arm felt fine," he said. "My arm felt really good."

"It's something I've always had to deal with," Price added.

He was able to overcome it in the past because of it happening in warmer temperatures.

"That's it. I mean his could be Game 7 of the World Series. So you've got to deal with it. I didn't do that tonight."

Could be a lot of things: C-spine impingement, thoracic outlet, ulnar neuropathy, carpel tunnel, shoulder impingement, slept on it funny, raynaud's phenomena, MS, too much masturbation...

Oh and Lupus, you should always consider Lupus

He needs to throw on his regular schedule and see what happens, if it repeats then more testing, if it's a one off event ignore it as a bad day.

Mild case of Raynaud's from the cold weather?
I have Raynaud's (I would argue not mild) - but based on my experience I would assume he would know if he has it and it would effect him fairly frequently. Not too mention his fingers would be white and that should be a pretty big tip-off as to what is going on. Though if it is mild or just presenting itself now I suppose it could be a possibility.

As somebody with some C-spine impingement, it certainly can cause finger sensation (or loss thereof). I haven't noticed it being weather related.

Based on watching House, Lupus was always considered, but it was never Lupus.

If it was face-saving or a panicked overreaction to something minor, I could give a damn - either of those is far more preferable to thoracic outlet syndrome, an elbow issue or some other physical ailment.

Yeah, there's a part of me that's convinced he's going on the DL for two weeks in June and we never see him again.

“Beni, Mookie, Bogey, Devers – they’re special. They might not be as big as those guys, big in stature like they are, but they pack a punch. They’re tough outs. Guys that hit a whole bunch of home runs, a lot of times there’s some kind of hole. I don’t know what the hole is with Mookie. I don’t know what it is with Beni. Raf, maybe it’s throwing fastballs over the top of his head, but he still got on top of 104 last year that was at his neck and took that pitch oppo. Their at-bats are far beyond their years. It’s really special.”
- David Price

I have had my doubts about David Price, so this quote means something to me. It tells me he wants to lead. And he understands that you have to lead from the front.

It’s hard to be a leader from the dl. Hopefully he comes back and is the 1a we all know he can be
