Do my eyes deceive or does this have the two Ortiz pitches noted as balls?

(Edited to add -- awesome work, regardless!)

I think your eyes deceive you. Called strikes are open circles, balls are solid circles, fouls are circles with a dot in the center. Ortiz saw six pitches: Foul, ball, ball, ball, called strike, called strike, and those are all shown in the chart.

On the NESN broadcast last night Remy related a story from his playing days where , after saying bad things to an umpire in the previous game he was warned by the Umps the next day that they were out to get him - which subsequently proved to be the case.

He then went on the say Kulpa's horrible strike 3 call was the same thing - namely umpire vindictiveness (from being shown up the previous call).

And he mentioned the "smirk", which I hadn't noticed until they showed the replay highlighting that. Mr. Kulpa was pretty damned pleased with himself.

Remy specifically mentioned Larry Barnett (as if we needed another reason to hate him).

Also, a friend of mine searched Retrosheet and found the game(s) he was talking about. April 27, 1982, Barnett was umping 3B and Remy did have a strikeout. Then on April 28, Riley is umping 1B and Remy was called out for running into his own bunt.
