I had the misfortune of hearing Gresh and Tanguay yuck it up about their interview today for about 5 minutes as EEI had College Basketball on. It was pathetic. They replayed the question he asked, and again you are left asking how Gresh has a job and I was left wondering if he has ever looked in a mirror after he asked that "loser" question to Nomar. Seriously, look at yourself, and you sit there and call a guy with multiple charitable foundations, a guy who was very successful in his profession, etc a "loser" because he was never on a team that won a championship and didn't like the print media. Really?

Then they are so full of themselves they were going to replay the entire interview again and they put together a dumb sound bit with quotes from the interview. I shut it off. Sad, sad radio.

That Nomar interview is just pathetic and sad. It's sad that GREEEESSHHHHH is so needing for attention that he has to so obviously try to start a fight to try to bring attention to himself. He probably knows his time is just about up. He had a shot on Sirius/XM for about 3 months and was an epic failure. His run is just about over and he's trying to do anything to save it.

I'd feel bad for him if he wasn't such an insufferable twat.

He sucks. I really have nothing to add besides that. I'd rather listen to Larry Johnson, Ted Sarandis, and Eddie Andelman than listen to Gresh.

According to Felger on Sports Tonight, Nomar complained to the Sox PR staff about Tanguay and Gresh's questioning and the Sox PR staff has threatened to ban all Red Sox personnel from appearing on Tanguay's radio show.

Felger mentioned that yesterday afternoon too and actually made it sound like it was Nomar's fault. What douches.

If true, it was Nomar's fault. It was a dick question by Gresh to be sure, but there was no need for Nomar to answer the question rationally, theng et his panties in a bunch and then go bitching and whining to the Sox PR after being signed to a ceremonial one day contract.

edit: And the worst part about it, it give Gresh's question legitimacy. If Nomar lets it go Gresh is an asshole for asking the question, but crying to the Sox, Nomar looks like a bitch.

"If true" is the key part. They have no evidence that Nomar "whined" to the Sox about the interview. They got a call from the Sox about the interview after. You don't think the Sox have their PR people right there with Nomar during the interview? The guys who set these interviews up and monitor them? It was clearly just another way to take a shot at him and go off his reputation about whining about the media. It was the most pathetic "sports radio" I've heard in a long time, and I'm not even an unabashed Nomar guy.

And why would the Sox kowtow to Nomar's wishes anyway? He doesn't work for them, he works for ESPN now.

I have to agree with Gambler, it was probably a Sox PR staffer who heard the idiotic line of questioning brought it to his/her superiors and they made the decision themselves.

This isn't even the kind of bullshit that they do on WEEI. Gresh is a fuck. Edit: And for Felger to give the questions some sort of authenticity, "These are questions that everyone is afraid to ask!" makes Felger just as big of a fuck as Gresh. An ambush by a fill-in mid-day host, how edgy! I wonder if he would have said those things if Garciaparra was in the same room with him, not 1000 miles away?

It's becoming clear that Gresh is employed by 98.5 in an attempt to capture to the all-important drooling idiot demographic (or, at least, to pry some of that demographic from WEEI's monopoly). Most people on this website are annoyed by it, but I can definitely picture a few people I know getting a kick out of the whole thing, unfortunately.

I've now sworn off 98.5 after that pathetic display. I expect Sparkey Lyle and Rocco to come on here and defend Felger and Gresh. In their minds, Felger and Gresh can do no wrong. Yesterday was a day to celebrate Nomar, not to bury him. I say this jokingly but have anyone seen CHB and Gresh in the same room? After yesterday's ambush by Gresh, and the hatchet job by CHB, I'm starting to wonder.. Like JMOH said, I wonder if Gresh would have had the courage to say those words if they were together in a studio and not a 1,000 miles apart.

I read through this thread and didn't see any posts by Rocco, but did see this one ny Sparky:

"No kidding. He sucks so bad he truly rivals Larry Johnson. He just doesn't pimp his faith the way Johnson does. It's stunning to me that he gets so much radio and TV time. What information does TSH and CSN have that leads them to believe people like him? They must have it because why else would they continue with this loser. He must come really cheap, like four hundred bucks a week. Pete Sheppard, I can't believe I'm saying this, would be ten times better."

Ouch.

You see, richgedman'sdouchebag, if you paid any attention you would know that I have never defended Gresh. I can't stand him. Never could. I was driving to work on the Mass Pike when I heard his voice come over the radio and I almost drove off the road. I was so bullshit that that fat cunt was on Felger's show that I pulled over to the break down lane so I could send this text to Felger: "Felgy, are you fucking kidding me! Gresh!!!! See ya." With that, I put music on. And lo, and behold, who's on the show today? Gresh. So, for the first time in a long time, I''m listening to EEI, Mike Adams, Buckley, and Butchie. That's how much I hate Gresh. I like Felger a lot, especially his hockey talk, even though I know many of you do not but he can't overcome the impediment that Gresh is.

Now, go feck off, boyo!

That was pretty pathetic. How can anybody honestly call Nomar a loser as a player with a straight face? The biggest Nomar hater in the world should be laughing that off. You can't honestly cover sports in Boston and not acknowledge what a joke of an organization Nomar was drafted and developed in to. By the time Nomar got in to the big leagues he was igniting the offense that featured a legitimately great hitter in Mo Vaughn, a very good player in John Valentin, and an underwhelming supporting cast of Hatteberg, Naehring, Cordero, Bragg, O'Leary, and the ever so joyful Reggie Jefferson with a rotation of Wakefield-Gordon-Sele-Suppan-Avery. It was a team that won 78 games and finished in the middle of the pack for American League attendance (although in a small ballpark and only a full season removed from the end of the strike.)

Then 1998 hits and Nomar hits .323 with 35 HR and a 140 OPS+, finishing 2nd in the AL MVP vote, and leads the team to 92 wins and a postseason berth with Mo Vaughn and the newly acquired Pedro Martinez. He hits .333 with 3 HR and a 1.000 SLG and but it isn't enough as the Indians down the Red Sox 3-1 with the only win coming from...well it's kind of obvious.

1999 comes around and Boston baseball for a brief time becomes something special that everybody in New England wanted to be a part off. Pedro Martinez and Nomar Gariaparra begin their epic 2 year run as arguably the best pitcher/position player combination in baseball that carried the team especially in 1999 (look at that pitching rotation). The Sox win 94 games and actually advance to the ALCS on the backs of Nomar, Pedro, and a great performance by several offensive players including O'Leary, Offerman, Lewis, and Stanley.

Pedro is masterful in his ALCS start vs. the Yankees and Nomar hits .400/.455/.800 with 2 HR.

2000 is another great year for Nomar and Pedro but they only win 85 games and after that you have the 2001 disaster.

New ownership comes in for 2002 and the Red Sox win 93 games but fail to make the playoffs, but Nomar and Pedro turn in stellar performances, although they aren't what they used to be thanks to injuries.

Fast forward one year to 2003. Nomar and Pedro finally have the supporting cast they deserve. Injuries from 1999-2001 give Nomar a (at the time) career low .301 average and .870 OPS. Same injury story goes for Pedro as he was still absolutely dominant but only threw 186.7 innings and got gassed after 100 pitches, he failed to reach 200 IP for the 3rd year in a row.

It was all in place.

And any competent manager would've helped these two finish what they started.

Right. And I was thinking about that today, if Little doesn't have a massive brain fart in 2003; Garciaparra is in the World Series and we don't have to hear this bullshit about him being a loser. Gresh has to do something else.

So, it really boils down to Grady Little and his idiocy. Thanks again, Gump.

You know, I actually believe that Nomar complained to the Sox PR people: I realize that JMOH and some others don't buy it. I heard the interview and I got to tell you that I can't believe how disrespectful and insulting that fat pig Gresh was to one of the best Red Sox baseball players in club history. And he was abetted in his effrontery by that insipid wimp Tanguay.

I'm not saying that I don't buy it, I wouldn't be surprised if he did do it. But, I don't think that it's a slam dunk. He could have been giving the interview in one room and the Sox PR crew could have been some where else and have had the same reaction that most of us had without Nomar's knowledge. The thing that separates them from us is that they can actually do something about it.

I guess what I was commenting on is Felger's and the Fat Fuck's assertion that Nomar ran and told on them. That isn't an a+b=c thing, but it also doesn't mean that Nomar didn't say anything. But since Nomar isn't a Red Sox anymore the team isn't obligated to do anything. I think that they just heard a bullshit interview and called Gresh on his assholery. Does that make sense?

Gresh was at URI during their "best party schools in the country" era, and he was on the football team.

The chances of him not smoking weed at some point in his life is pretty much nil. In fact, there is a better chance that he's high right now than there was of him getting through URI without smoking.

This morning I'm working in the basement cleaning up and organizing for the spring and turn on 98.5, FUCKING NTFF again??? Switch over to EEI and actually listened to Mustard and Johnson, they were better than NTFF. I'll be down in the basement, hopefully he'll be gone soon.

Stupid is as stupid does. The suggestion that Nomar retires with a big L on his forehead because he never won a World Championship is the kind of fat-brained nonsense that makes me think I deserve hazard pay for being required to listen to certain sports radio hosts.

I know, I shouldn't be bothered by half-formed opinions from those desperate to shout their "takes" but too ill-informed and lazy to have anything worthwhile, interesting, or factual to add to the conversation.

But Nomar was a loser? Really? You remember which one he was, right? Played for the Red Sox. Big beak and a young Ted Ballgame hairstyle? Lots of quirks and tics in the batter's box, adoringly imitated by every baseball-mad 10-year-old in New England? Roped line drive after line drive after line drive after scorched-smoked-sizzling-Monster-denting line drive? Him? That guy? No. 5? Do you really remember? Or are you just speaking authoritatively yet again without having anything to say?

Tell me, Sir Shrieks-A-Lott, how do you explain this loser's .323 lifetime average in 96 postseason at-bats, with seven homers and 21 RBIs in 25 games? That's a pretty decent sample-size, no? (Wait. I should have known. I have to explain "sample-size" to you, don't I? And "homers." And "postseason" . . . )

How do you explain how this "loser" drove in 11 runs in a four-game series in his postseason debut in in '98 against the loaded Cleveland Indians? How do you explain that he tore up the Indians with such ruthlessness in the unforgettable '99 ALDS against Cleveland that manager Mike Hargrove refused to let Nomar beat his club in Game 5, with a pair of intentional walks to this loser setting the stage for Troy O'Leary's baseball heroics?

How do you explain his crucial presence on the 2003 Sox (78 extra-base hits, 105 RBIs, seventh in the MVP voting), a team that likely would have advanced to the World Series if not for Grady Little's dopey decisions?

How do you explain his .975 career postseason OPS, which happens to be more than 100 points higher than that of October legend Jeter?

And tell me this, Screech: How do you explain your ignorance?

It was funny hearing Mazz tiptoe around the Nomar interview issue this afternoon around 5:40. He basically said it was a fair interview up until that point but that Gresh didn't phrase the question or use the right words when asking that question, etc... I'd like to hear what Mazz really thought about the question without tiptoeing around it.

What the hell, I might as well pile on. The crisis going on involving the country's political, financial and cultural elites is amply demonstrated by the presence of a no-talent fat fuck being employed on the airwaves of a major metropolitan radio station in the person of Gresh. What in god's good name could have possessed the powers that be at 98.5 to put this idiot in front of a microphone? Does he work for free? Does he service them in the men's room during breaks? It's reached the point in this town where you can't listen to either of the two sports radio outlets. They both suck. Equally. This morning Toucher and Rich sounded like Dennis and Callahan as they ranted about taxes. I couldn't listen to them either. Maybe the format just subjects everyone to over-exposure and after a while you can't listen anymore.

I missed the excitement today...

I imagine a lot of yelling about how lame opening night was (which is amusing when Felger does it...not so much when GRESH does it), and a lot of yelling about Tiger Woods?

And I'm sure there were..."A LOT OF TEXTS OUT OF THE 774!"
