Oh come on.  This market is insane.  Almost every deal has me shaking my head, except for Salty's.  What a bargain that may turn out to be.

Fascinating. MLB offseason's are fascinating. A few years ago it was a FO's market and guys like Edwin Jackson couldn't find a contract and this year you just have absolute madness.

The Mets supposedly had ~$35M to work with this off-season. They've spent $23M of it on Chris Young and Curtis Granderson.

This market is crazy.

Then the Sox are handling things JUST RIGHT so far.

Well, at 32 he's coming of WAR of 1.1 (where he missed much of the year with flukish injuries), 3.0, 5.4, and 4.5.

Last year Victorino was a a year younger and coming off 2.0, 5.0, 2.9, and 3.8, and got a fewer year and 2 mil less of AAV.

Doesn't seem crazy to me.  It's the new market.

This is almost exactly the same deal that they gave to Bay. A different player to be sure but another Type B superstar. Maybe one day they'll find that complimentary piece for Wright but I doubt that this is it.

How different is he? Curtis Granderson's most similar player is...Jason Bay, according to baseball-reference. Even if you isolate for "through Age 32", Bay is 6th.

Either way, it doesn't seem that out of line for the market, but I don't know how excited you can be if you're a Mets fan. He's no longer a viable CF, so you're stuck putting him in left or right. For his Yankees career, he varied between having a notable home/road split and being nearly even, but I doubt the move across the city is going to help in terms of his home park. Additionally, his contact rates are down across the board and he's swinging more. He can still hit fastballs but I wonder if he'll adjust or those rates will continue trending downwards.

I think there's a weird recursive aspect at play here with the Mets fans. Something along the lines of "It's good that we spent lots of money on a guy, because it shows that we had lots of money to spend on guys." The mere implication of solvency is enough to make them happier.
