I was out town yesterday to a larger city that I know somewhat well, but needed some direction for a couple places I had to go.

I've been using Google Maps since forever (tried Waze for 6 months, but it seemed to try and get me lost sometimes), but yesterday, I had some major issues and was wondering if anyone else has issues?

I basically had to drive through the City to get where I was going, but it was telling me 4.5 miles, 38 minutes to reach destination. It tried taking me through all these side roads, sometimes into residential areas. I basically ignored most of it's direction until I got closer to my location, which only took about 15 minutes to reach where I was going.

There's an "avoid highways" setting somewhere in Google Maps. Check through your preferences and see if it got toggled somehow.

Also a "shortest distance not shortest time" setting.

Also, I've never had a problem with Waze, assuming the settings are correct.

maybe it had you on foot, not driving.

Waze only real issue I've found is that it can't recognize (and doesn't reroute around) left turns that are difficult due to oncoming traffic. Iirc Waze has said they're aware of the issue and are working on remedying it.
