Kevin Kiermaier isn't a finalist?

In what world is Lorenzo Cain a better CF'er than Kiermaier?

The numbers I looked at show Cain expectedly decling as he approaches 32 years old.

So the reigning GG insanely great Kiermaier falls off the ballot for a declining Cain?

It's like you all have thought GG hasn't been the weirdest award in the last decade or so.

I hadn't even noticed Zobrist. Yeah this is the dumbest award process and I'm not getting worked up over JBJ being omitted.

Didn't Kiermaier miss a good chunk of the season?

But replace his name with JBJ's and I agree entirely.

I sincerely thought RA Dickey retired at the end of last year. And looking at Stanton's fangraph page, his fielding numbers sure are a rollercoaster. Looks like he genuinely had a decent 2017 though. Same as Aaron Judge.

If Judge beats Mookie, though, that would be so dumb that.. it'd be pretty standard for GG voting. I don't quite see why Calhoun is even in the running.

JBJ not in the top 3 is insane. he's getting punished because he makes really tough catches look easy and dumb people are fooled

He played only 98 games and his cumulative dWAR was 2.5. If he played a whole season, his numbers would blow away all the competition.

Well, Cain accumulated 15 OAA in 200 opportunities, compared to Jackie's 11 in 131. If JBJ held that pace over 200 opportunities he'd have almost 17 OAA.

My favorite part is that he puts up those numbers with a sprint speed nearly 2 ft/sec slower than all the other top guys.

Ramirez played only 88 games at 3B. That's odd.
In 1999, Rafael Palmeiro won the AL Gold Glove at first base in spite of only playing 28 games at that position (28 GS, 25 finished). He played 128 games as DH. Most pitchers who won Gold Gloves had more starts than him.

Speaking of pitchers winning Gold Gloves, why bother? What's it based on? How many times they cover first? I mean, guys are practically shoving them out of the way when there's a pop-up in the infield. Any grounder or liner they catch is just a stab in the dark. They should just put all of the starters' names in a hat and draw one at random.

Well, there was a while when it seems they didn't bother. Jim Kaat won the GG from 1961-75 in the AL and 1976-77 in the NL (16 years in a row -- 8 E in 1969) and Greg Maddux won won 18 consecutive years in the NL (1990-2008 -- 7 E in 1993).

It was explained Kiermaier missed too much time.
