At this point, it's pretty unlikely that AP even gets Lacy money, no?

That Raiders offense is going to be scary. Assuming they get a decent RB.

To think of all those wasted years in Oakland under old, crazy Al. Same damn thing in Dallas until Stephen intervened. We fans are saps.

Entirely possible. I'm afraid they'll go after Mixon... The kid screwed up hard 3 years ago but the talent is undeniable. Has Raiders move written all over it.

That's an Al Davis move. Mark Davis said there is zero chance a player with a DV history will be on the team due to the team's public and financial commitment to Fred Belitnikoff's foundation. Belitnikoff's daughter was killed by an abusive ex-boyfriend.

    Here's Davis on the topic:

Wow. I can't fathom the amount of pain that must have caused FB.
Good for Davis. Haircuts aside, I continue to be impressed by that organization.

Aldon Smith? I know he's on really thin ice but why haven't they cut ties since his DV incident?

Why they have stuck with Smith after either incident this spring is a good question. But I think the Raiders are waiting for the facts on the case in the "domestic incident". With no arrest, only a report from police that he was cooperating and interviewed, we don't know what happened at Aldon's house in February.

But sign me up for team " this is going to end poorly" when it comes to Aldon Smith.

Colts sign former Patriot Cornerback Butler to contract for 2017

Colts re-signing DB Darius Butler to a one-year, $3 million deal that could increase to $4.5M with incentives, per source. Moving to safety.

Saw that. I don't understand what purpose that serves, at all. If this is a player safety issue, I could probably get behind a no-OT rule in the NFL and just allow ties.

Yeah, probably. Shortening OT is going to make it less likely that there's a "fair" conclusion, not more.

The Raiders announced they have signed EJ Manuel. Somewhere Connor Cook is not that worried.

We can also assume that Colin Kaepernick has almost no chance of getting a job.

NFL: Beat your wife all you want, as long as there isn't video or an embarrassing police report, but definitely don't take a stand on social justice.

many backup and third-string NFL quarterbacks suck ... several suck more than Kaepernick. But when you suck AND were the center of a controversy, getting a job is that much more difficult

I think the point stands though - reality is, the type of controversy matters. CK got way more shit from the base NFL fanbase for kneeling during the anthem than many athletes who commit domestic and family violence and are actually suspended do, and as a consequence teams are more reluctant to carry that baggage going forward.

Oh, I agree. But Cam Newton or Drew Brees would still be employed ... even had they taken the same actions as Kaepernick

For sure, and CK would still be in San Francisco.

It's the incredible hypocrisy of sports, all of them.

I think this is a more cogent point.

Peyton Manning's sexual assault history wasn't a problem because he was good - and Brees kneeling or hitting his wife wouldn't be a problem, because he's good. But a barely viable player? Totally different situation. The knives come out when the talent isn't there.

Michael Vick is about the only good football player who I've actually seen take some real heat for a social issue.

It stinks to high heaven. I am not a huge fan of Kaep's stated political positions, but they absolutely should not cost him a job and it is a cowardly business decision by NFL owners and GMs considering that guys like Pacman Jones or Brandon Marshall, who are not hardened criminals, nor superstars, but who are a pain in the ass, can get jobs. Kaep is a distraction, but so are lots of players who are less accomplished and talented than him, especially at the ultimate position of scarcity.

I really can't figure out why either Pete Carroll / John Schneider, Elway / whoever the new guy is or Hughjack / Sachi Brown don't pull the trigger on signing him. Especially Carroll, seeing how Kaep would be able to step into Wilson's shoes without major changes to the offense and he is better than the other back up options.

By the way, the Raiders signed Manuel over Kaep because new OC Todd Downing coached Manuel when he was the QBs coach in Buffalo. I thought the Raiders were going to sign Kaep, or at least were the most likely team to bring him in, but I was wrong.

I thought the big problem with Kaep is him asking for $14M a year.

If he wants a backup job in Seattle for $1M, come on down Colin!

Pacman Jones was suspended for 20 or so games, traded, released, and had to go to the CFL for a year before getting another shot. I'm not seeing how the owners have been easier on him than on Kaep, who so far has simply not been signed to a $14m a year contract per his request.

John Lynch just said Kaepernick had a contract ready to sign, but it "fell through", implying the owner in question got cold feet. I don't think it's just that his reserve price hasn't been met.

It's also cowardly of fans to be hush on the likes of domestic violence, drugs/steroids, etc. GM's and owners try to put a winning product and players on the field that the fans will support. Fans supported pacman jones and even guys like big ben. There is no difference between the majority of fans and majority of owners. They won't boycott successful players. Ray Rice is the only one i've seen blackballed and he wasn't that great.

What makes you think AP would be interested in that level of money?

I'd guess when AP says "discount", he's talking $5+ a year.

LA Tlmes' Sam Farmer thinks the Marshawn Lynch deal will get done in Oakland.
{He wants it, lives there, Reggie is friends with Schneider, etc.} Not good for Pats.

Eh do you think he really makes them that much better than Murray did? Plus Oakland has been a net loser in free agency losing Malcolm Smith
