There is nothing about this that isn't epic.

Good things were expected from the Giants, and reasonably if erroneously so. Five games in, they are done and competing only for the #1, #1.

A stunning trio of injuries -- the same injury - that wipes out an entire position group, including the diva who was gunning for the biggest contract in the NFL. Not the biggest for wideouts, the biggest period.

A good but always chest-thumping fan base in stunned disbelief.

This playing out in the walk year of the sanctimonious asshole on WFAN.

Did somebody anger the gods here? How could that be? The Maras always do things the right way.

There is one guy I feel a bit badly for. McAdoo. That's it. But I'm sure Francesa will be insisting, "this woulda nevah happened if "Tom" was still here -- nevah!" Even though FF was fine was fine with letting him go.

Man, it's amazing people thought the Giants would be good this year. Obviously they are an unmitigated disaster but the team is not good and the Giants were very lucky to have an easy schedule last year. This year it's the total opposite.

McAdoo is a terrible coach, too. Eli is getting old. The defense isn't that good and they have lost all their WR's. 0-16 isn't out of the question.

Yeah, the projection systems had them as OK going into the year, but that offense was terrible for the second half of last year so the Giants being terrible was firmly in the range of possible outcomes. Basically either OBJ turned a slant into a big play or they were done. Some people were genuinely scared to play that team again in the Super Bowl and it seemed a lot like being afraid of ghosts to me, they were a lot worse than the other NFC playoff teams.

Awesome.

A good opportunity to remind that Serena won the Australian Open, this year's first grand slam, without dropping a set, while pregnant (but before everyone knew). Girl likes a challenge. Lynch was wise to steer clear, or to at least suggest a more level playing field.

Kaepernick filing a grievance against the owners for collusion:

Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick will file a grievance under the latest collective bargaining agreement against NFL owners for collusion, according to a document obtained by ABC News.

Kaepernick is not going through the NFL Players Association but has instead hired attorney Mark Geragos, who has represented several high-profile clients, including Michael Jackson, former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield and musician Chris Brown.

The filing, which demands an arbitration hearing on the matter, says the NFL and its owners "have colluded to deprive Mr. Kaepernick of employment rights in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick's leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States."

Luck had a setback, had to take a cortisone shot for soreness in his shoulder. Pushes his return out at least a few weeks.

So JT is going to perform at the SB.. how do these guys like him and Letterman (who just received the Twain Award) continue to escape scrutiny in the wake of Harvey Weinstein?

Are there stories out there about either being a serial harasser of women?

Um. Seriously? You have not heard about Letterman?

And what? JT needs to be serial? You are aware of the 2004 SB?

But, has to be serial, guys... otherwise one case of very public sexual harassment is all good!

The lyric is "I'll have you naked by the end of this song" and then mysteriously he ripped off the flap exposing her breast, which just so happened to fall right down, as she stood there and made no attempt to cover herself. But yeah, she wasn't in on it, or something.

Edit: And I thought Letterman was just being blackmailed by someone who he had an affair with. She worked for him, so maybe there was a power dynamic in play, but I'm not aware of him being accused of anything non-consensual, or at least I'd want to know the details before I lumped him in with Weinstein and O'Reilly.

Jackson had her nipple covered with jewelry because it was part of the act. Obviously ripping off the top of someone on stage wouldn't fly in 2017 and it probably shouldn't have flown in 2004 but calling that sexual harassment and tut tutting someone is really nothing more than an aggressive effort to stand on a higher soap box. Riboflav is far more woke than anyone.

The idea that Timberlake sexual harassed Janet during their planned routine is the hottest of takes. Well done sir.

The only story I know about Letterman is that he had an affair and when it ended the woman and her boyfriend attempted to extort him. If there's more, I've never heard it

Joe Thomas out for the year, ending his streak of 166 consecutive games played. (He had played 10,363 straight snaps untll yesterday.)

Man, between Joe Thomas, Aaron Rodgers, and JJ Watt, that's three first-ballot HOFs going down in a span of three weeks. Maybe Beckham Jr. too.

In addition to cutting Hoyer, the 49ers released Will Redmond off IR. He was a 2016 3rd-rounder but has been on IR both seasons so far. I liked him a lot coming out of Mississippi State, rating him my #3 off-man / zone CB and my #1 slot CB: http://insidethepylon.com/nfl/2016-nfl-draft/2016/04/30/2016-nfl-draft-corner-superlatives/

Not sure they have space for another CB right now (and Redmond isn't a good tackler) but he might be a nice PS candidate.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Texans owner Bob McNair, amongst others, will be... http://fb.me/Ipng9sSZ

At the link:
"...will be deposed and asked to turn over all cell phone records and emails in relation to the Colin Kaepernick collusion case against the NFL, a league source confirmed. Others owners, teams and league officials also will be deposed, but those individuals have been confirmed for now."

Can you say "confidential settlement" batman?

Why would they settle? I think it is highly unlikely the owners communicated with each other saying let's blackball him. Seems far more likely each owner just thought he would be a distraction.
I think you're being naive. I would expect on their private cell phones they are probably much more colorful in their language, especially good old boys like Jerry and Bob.

I also would imagine the thought of their phones being turned over is as appealing to them as it is to Brady. Their lawyers are hard at work right now I am sure working on a way to defeat these requests. Ultimately though, I think the information would have to be disclosed or if destroyed, could result in an adverse inference instruction.

I agree with the latter. On the former, I just doubt they are texting each other about a single player. But maybe I am being naive.

Never, ever, ever underestimate what people will put in writing and circulate.

I can't imagine they turn over the actual phones, right? It'll be subpoenaed text and email records responsive to certain search terms.

As the Commissioner’s office and Brady, I am very confident that the arbitration panel will limit disclosure to matters pertaining to Colin Kaepernick

I'm curious to know why Kraft was singled out? It's not like his team had a need for a starting quarterback.

Friend o' Trump.
That’s it. The theory of the arbitration demand is that the owners colluded in response to pressure from Trump.

So they’ll ask Bawb if he spoke to Trump about it. And he will truthfully answer no.

Doesn't matter if he spoke to Trump about it; matters if he spoke to the other owners about what Trump said publicly.

That’s true enough. But they are focused on Bawb because he is tight with Trump and theoretically a conduit.

Edit. And maybe because Bawb is a big boy on the NFL campus and they want to break his balls.

Kraft would have to be out of his mind to discuss this with anyone. Out of his mind drunk or headed to senility.

Collusion is not only impermissible, but also illegal. Which is why people don’t do it unless they have to. As B.B. noted, until JG was traded this week, Pats had the best QB position in the League and probably did for a couple of years.

I think the collusion case is generally weak, but as to Kraft it is pretty much insane. Bringing Hoyer aboard is easily and innocently explained.

Come on, you're an experienced litigator. How many emails and texts have you seen where you're stunned that some executive put things in writing?

Hell, I'll put up $50 that not only are there incriminating messages somewhere, but that they refer to Kaep in an inappropriate way.

Yeah, but the critical point to me is that there was no need to collude.

I agree with you on the inappropriate part. It's hard to imagine there aren't inappropriate comments. But collusion? I really doubt we'll see actual evidence of that.
