Everton haven't played a 3-4-3 since the beginning of the season. No Schneiderlin and no Coleman makes it tough. Disjointed so far.

Jagielka has looked ready for the glue factory this year, but he just saved a goal by being in the right place at the right time.

Typical derby so far. Some good moments for both teams, and already a question whether both sides should have 11.

Yup.

Good moments for each, more for Liverpool than Everton, but neither team at its best.

Everton's injuries are lethal. Part of the game, next man up, etc. etc. but the positions of the guys who are out has Koeman playing a different formation and it's not working. Both Funes Mori* and Coleman out led to Koeman playing three at the back, which was a good formation for Everton earlier in the season but is not working with Pennington and Holgate. Holgate has impressed on the right of a back three at times, but not today - looks like he's cheating to cover up for Pennington who is the real weak spot. Both of Liverpool goals come from outside Holgate. Schneiderlin out is brutal too. He has been excellent as a DM in helping to absorb pressure, gain possession, and start the attack from the back. Nothing like that at all for Everton today. Lots of long balls, no build-up at all, Barkley and Lukaku isolated.

*I hate Funes Mori. Have to throw that in there every time. But I miss him today. I hate typing that.

That may have been the first time that Calvert-Lewin has touched the ball all day. I forgot he was playing.

Origi on for Mane. Hopefully he's not too hurt, going to need him, especially if Lallana is out for any period.

I like Williams as a player, but that's the second time today he's stuck his studs pretty blatantly into Can.

Like Jagielka, he's gotten old and lost a step overnight. He makes up for it by knocking people around.

Barry in for Everton. Oh goody, another old. Might as well since the kids aren't figuring it out.

Yellow for Can for coming in high on Gueye.

This will not finish 11 v 11.

That's a really good stop by Mignolet, as he had already gone to ground then had to reach back for the deflection.

Everton didn't have a lot of chances, but has had a few pretty damn good ones. Really really needed one of the ones at 2-1.

I'm only in the 42nd minute, but Ross Barkley is a fucking disgrace. He should have earned a yellow in the first few minutes. If Anthony Tayler saw his tackle on Lovren enough to pull a card out, there is no possible way it can be a yellow. None. No look at the ball, intent to injure. Just disgusting. He's a cunt of the highest order.

Given what's gone on between Can and Williams today, that was rather generous of Can to put the ball out there.

With about 10 minutes to go I was sure Everton would end up getting a scrappy goal and making the finish more nerve-wracking. I'll take this way instead.

Pffffft.

Everton didn't have the horses but they didn't show up either. Even with the injuries this team did not have the fire in the belly that it's had over the past couple of months.

I wouldn't have complained much honestly if he had been given a straight red, but the idea that "there is no possible way" it could be yellow is nonsense.
