Yes, DeBrusk is skating out and away from the goalie, and it is the goalie who pushes forward to cause contact. There's no interference by Jake.

They’re both heading in the same direction, toward the shot, after both starting in the crease. I think that both the rule and the application are inscrutable and the most inconsistently called play in sports, but I don’t have a huge problem with the call.

A lot more than their skates touched. I think it was close and far from the worst application of the rule I’ve seen.

Not that it matters, but you also said the goalie created contact.. correct?

I said “if anything” in comparing it to the notion that the defenseman caused the contact. The argument that the goalie did is a better, more reasonable one.
