Fell off the back of a truck. Suuuuuuure...
From the article:
...and they waited until they got out of the car to open it...
I wonder why they decided to quickly get out of public view?
"We thought it was jerseys or something like that," Baldassari said. "That's what it look like, and when we unraveled it and seen what it was, we knew it was something big."
And that's the moment they realized it would be extremely difficult to monetize this "find".

Why would you think a big package wrapped in brown paper was "jerseys"?

There's a reason I put these guys in the "People Who Look Guilty" thread.

this video makes me miss living in the boston area.
Heh. Had the exact opposite effect on me. "We did a lot of work to get this banner and now we deserve something nice, like playoff tickets!" Classic townie Masshole thinking.

I'm clearly not as deft and nuanced as either Mr David Chase or YTF, point taken.

Could have happened, but sounds more than just a bit suspicious. Can't imagine the Sox not offering something as a goodwill gesture had this all been on the up and up and if there wasn't the threat to hold the banner hostage. One huge missing element to all of this is any word by the vendor or guy driving the truck. I'm thinking it was one of those instances where guy from Malden was told that he could turn the banner over no questions asked or the police could get involved.

Well, apparently now they're involved:

Um, speaking of other not-so-bright fan behavior:

A Red Sox fan on his way home from Yankee Stadium died Wednesday when he tried to climb on top of a Metro-North train and was electrocuted by overhead wires, creating a chaotic situation where riders were trapped for more than two hours, MTA officials and riders said.
