Sale ends Monday. I think I have to get this. Is there anything in the full version I can't get in the demo?

Alamogordo
I played 13 a while back and was hooked for a short time, but as an avid OOTP fan who knows next to nothing about soccer, I was frustrated with the fact that I had to use real players even though I loved the management aspects of the game.  I found out tonight that I don't have to use real players.

Goodbye life.

I decided to take over a small team... the Gainsborough Trinity, with an estimated value of $175K and a stadium that seats 2500 (in only 500 seats!!!).  I couldn't realistically expect more, as I never did make it above Sunday League competition when I was an active player (in game only).  We shall see how this goes.

Edit:  Oooh, I like the two year old game already, as it just announced that I turn 33 on my next birthday!  I feel young again.

I'm on a tight budget the next few months. Buying this may help because I won't want to do anything else.

I'm seeing $25. It'll be available for that price until June 30th. However, it could still get a deeper discount to around $15 or less in the upcoming days. So unless one is really eager to buy the game, it's better to wait and see if Steam features it in the daily deals or flash sales before the 30th.

Down to $12.49 right now.  (a Daily Deal for the next 45 mins it looks like)

Don't mind if I do!

I looked yesterday and it was $29.99 on steam when I think it's full price is $49.99. It might get cheaper in the fall once we get close to the FM 2015 release date.
It's currently down to $12.49 (75% off) on Steam so I'm pulling the trigger. Somebody please text me when Columbia-Uruguay starts.

Almost missed that sale. Best 12.50 I'll ever spend. Or worst. Either way I'm really excited.

So, would this game "teach" me the inner workings (transfers, loans, regulated, etc) of Soccer or would it just be too overwhelming for a new fan. I've played OOTPB and that was extremely easy to put down but FM seems to be the opposite. I'm curious as to why that is.

Yes, it definitely would. It would be helpful to have a very basic understanding of all of that, but the game will teach you the details. Soon you'll be explaining the champions league homegrown player rules to your friends until their eyes glaze over.

That was, I think, a one day sale. It should still only be $25 for the rest of today.

It's their daily deal today, $12.49 for another 52 minutes.

I got the USMNT into the World Cup despite, at one point having 8 midfielders out--Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, Zusi, Beckerman, etc. All at the same time.

Then I'd forget to bring them back and they'd get pissed. The game also really gets upset when I drop Cherundulo.

I missed the deal on this, and it's showing $50 now.  Which I'm not going to do.  Is there any predictability to the sales, or anyone have a guess if it'll be back down sometime soon?

Appears to be 12.49 on amazon.

And 3 hours after I should have gone to bed, I finally stopped. I've played for like 5 hours and haven't even gotten to anything but a scrimmage with my U21 team and two friendlies.  Fuck.

An online game wouldn't be the worst thing considering I also just stopped a five hour binge.

How do the online games work?

Is it simply a team I put together versus one of yours or is it a league system?

The one online game I played worked like this: we all play in the same league (usually a lower league, like League 2, or Serie C2 or something, so that European matches don't bog everyone down). There's a fixed time between match days (I think it was like 90 seconds per day or something. Matches are all played simultaneously (everyone has to uncheck "move matches for TV") on high speed, with Key highlights. Players that get relegated can take over a new team. Players that get promoted could stay in the upper league or grab a new team, either way. Players have to spend at least one full season with a team (unless they get fired).

It's fun, but it's a different experience than standard FM because of the time factor. But we could play around with that, make it longer or shorter.

Also, for new players, I recommend www.sortitoutsi.net which has add-ons that improve the game. I recommend the real name and German national team fix (a small file), and the facepack (a huge one).

Whoa, that site looks sweet. Will I need to do any manipulating of my files after downloading these? Overwriting some files I'd presume?

No, just put the downloaded fines in the correct folders and the game will read them.

Yeah I'm using a logo pack already but I've avoided the massive ~6 GB facepacks. Adds to the experience plus it has the new new Everton logo not the tire fire of last season's.

Spent last night downloading a punch of things for that site. One of the skins looked nice (Scorpio?) but it crowded my screen, especially with the emails, so I had to dump it.

Downloading the logo pack now.

After the World Cup we should look into setting something up for online.

Also, ManU just fired Moyes in my game world.

Anyone got a nonpaid link for the larger packs?  I hate the idea of paying for their website if they are just managing content by other guys

fmscout.com has some solid face/logo packs as well as a bunch of other add ons if you want them.

Question: if I send my scout to say Germany, how long does it take to receive reports back? All my scouts I've sent somewhere that wasn't England are still 'preparing' according to the game.

The link upthread isn't a pay site. They ask for donations, but you don't need to contribute.

And my World Cup foray started out bad--a 1-0 loss to Ukraine after Donovan and Yedlin were injured after the cut to 23.

I'm managing Halifax Town in the Conference.  One of my attacking wingers is named Adam Smith.  I hope he punches one in so I can call it the Invisible Hand of God.

If you want to get the larger file packs you need to pay for a subscription to the site

Gotcha. One large logo pack had a torrent link which I used. People that have BT may want to check the various sites--Pirate Bay, etc.

I don't think so. They have free mirrors below where they ask you to subscribe. That facepack is broken into 22 parts, though. So using the torrent for it would still be much faster and easier. The updates to that pack also ask you to subscribe, but have free mirrors as well. I'm downloading the first update now, which is 110 MB.

I'm feeling the first inklings of FM14 taking over my life--I need to get home because I have a big game on tap.

I took the USMNT on a miracle run to the WC semis. An opening loss, but then a stoppage time goal against Uruguay to win 2-1 followed by a shellacking of Congo then 2 upsets in the knockout round before Spain routed me 4-1.

I then decided I want to coach an MLS side and took over Portland (from Klinsmann, oddly enough) with 4 games to go in their season and was pasted in all 4 as they finished dead last. In the last 2 games I had no one that could play left back at all. I resigned from the US team and brought in a bunch of transfers, with lots of potential. I'm only 4-4-4 through 12 games, but I've finally found a formation that works for my team--3-5-2, with Diego Fagundez tucked in behind the 2 up front.

It's funny, in the PL running concurrently with the build-up to the WC in my game world, they won it and then made the semis of the Champions League. That's better than real life and better than I could do, so I'm going to leave them alone.

I'm right there with you except I did mine on a tablet which is a little better in the sense I can get my fixes in on my commute and such.

I took the no employment route in the German league and ended up getting hired by Saarbrücken in the third german division.  I promptly turned over half the team who was complaining or wanted some other role than what I wanted and won the third division my first year.  We were promoted and now I'm slogging my way through my second year with the team in the second division where my 30+ goal scorer from the year before has played a total of 3 games without injury this year (over halfway through the season) which has left me scrambling to find production.

Thankfully I sold a couple of players high and was able to obtain enough transfer funds to make a run at a Striker who has picked up the goal scoring mantle for me.

Christ this game is addicting

I tried to bring Aron Johannsson to Portland but he was all like "fuck that noise".
