Very selfish for Pogba to take that free kick. And while i'd absolutely have him at City the fundamental problem of paying 100m Euros for Pogba is that his team has been completely overrun and he's a midfielder but can't turn that tide. It isn't his fault, per se, but a player of his supposed cost needs to be able to drag his team out of situations like this.

Of course, he'll probably score 2 goals today now that I've typed this

Giroud appealed for it. Looked like he punched it out. Accident sure but head high hand looked like it hit his fist and changed direction.

Of course Griezmann buries the penalty.

I'm being sarcastic. He missed against Real Madrid in the Champions League Final. Conversely, Ramos missed a penalty in the Euros and made his PK against Atletico. Same for Ronaldo. Yes, I'm bitter.

I don't know a ton about soccer officiating, but I generally like Rizzoli- he controls games well and doesn't insert himself into the play. That call seems harsh.

It's not even clear that it hit his hand. There was clearly no intent. There was no real goal threat denied. Even if technically right there's just no reason to make that call

I love it. United are rumored to bid for him and you type this and MMS calls him overrated in the United thread. He's 23 and can lay claim to being the best midfielder in the world.

I disagree. His hand is up, the ball appears to change direction off it and go out of the box. It's a clear cut handball. If his hand was in a natural position maybe you can ignore it, but he put his hand right up to the flight of the ball as a player was making a play on it.

Edit- trying to parse whether it's a threat denied is dumb to me, anytime the ball is being played in the box by an opponent it's a threat, if you knock the ball out of the box you've decreased the threat.
If the ball hits his hand (it sure looked like it did) that's a clear penalty. If there is intent it's a penalty and maybe a red.

It has nothing to do with United to me. He's a real enigma of a player to me. He's a midfielder who doesn't boss the game and doesn't contribute many goals. He's got everything in his locker and then some, I'm a big believer in his talent. In a lot of senses, it doesn't matter what someone pays for him, but at that price he really needs to have more impact than he does. I don't think there's any way he can lay claim to the best midfielder in the world today but there's every chance he will by the time he is done.

I think that was the right call.

But even down 1-0; I like Germany'c chances in the 2nd. I loved their attack in the 1st and it may be all attack the second half. If I'm France, I just play like it's 0-0.

If you say that he doesn't boss a game than you haven't watched him much with Juve. He absolutely bosses the game.

The Guardian called him the best midfielder in the world in their year end rankings (funny enough citing how well he played vs City) and I don't think there is one better.

To make it clear, I don't believe he'll leave Juventus for a team that isn't in the Champions League. If Real come calling then he may be tempted but I can't see him leaving. But outside of Bale and Neymar he's the only other guy I'd spend that much on. Mainly because if he continues at his level and wants to leave in 4-5 years you recoup most of the costs.

Ozil got the classic temper-tantrum yellow. Not likely to matter since he doesn't tackle anyone anyway, but worth noting.

Giroud so good at all the parts of being a striker that aren't running or putting the ball in the net.

Giroud looks like the irritating-as-fuck guy on everyone's high school team who spends all game getting the ball in dangerous spots in and around the box before dicking it away trying to find the perfect shot from 6 yards out.

I've watched him plenty. Where is he today? HIs team has been absolutely overrun. He's got moments of skill and makes individual touches that make me absolutely drool. I'm not intending to assassinate the player. I'm just really uncomfortable with how easily he drifts out of matches. I guess it's as much a complaint about transfer prices as anything else but he's really far from a finished product or a sure thing to me. If he reaches his potential he'd certainly be one of the best ever but the wages he's asking for and the rumored fee will put so much pressure on him wherever he goes that I really wonder if he can withstand it.

I think the ref's been very good, I also think the defender clipped the German player's heels on the way by on that one a few minutes back at about 30-35 yards. Still overall very good, all the yellows justified, not many other obvious misses on fouls, or clear yellows not given.

In 2014 I recall Germany having a really, really good forward. Won the Silver Boot, scored 5 goals. It would be cool if Germany could magically bring him on the pitch for today's game.

Is it just a technical thing on my end, or does Twellman's voice sound somewhat modulated and deeper?
