Most bigtime club coaches would be a drastic improvement over their international counterparts. I think you will see an immediate improvement for the Devils. Add in his experience with the EPL and the fact that most of Belgium's big stars there and there's a lot to like. Great hire.

Yup, great hire. It all went to shit for Martinez at Everton last year but I think he is a pretty good manager who will give Belgium a tactical advantage vis-a-vis most national team counterparts. He also has either coached or coached against most of the players on Belgium's team, which can't hurt.

Good for Belgium I suppose, bad for those of us who watch ESPN's halftime shows during major tournaments. Roberto was good TV - not good enough to make up for the charisma blackhole of Michael Ballack, but good.

I'm an Everton guy, and loved Martinez before this year. I'm still not sure what happened- early in the season they looked like they could contend for a top 4 spot- then they had a brutal stretch where they dominated games but pissed away points in stoppage time. Eventually he lost the fans and the team. He had to go but he is better than he showed last year, I think.

Should be really interesting how this affects Belgium tactically. Martinez likes to play 3 at the back which seems very well suited for the talent they have
