Round of 16 draw has some pretty interesting match-ups

Matches Oct 24
  • West Ham vs Chelsea
  • Man Utd vs Man City
  • Arsenal vs Reading
  • Liverpool vs Tottenham
  • Bristol City vs Hull City
  • Leeds vs Norwich
  • Newcastle vs Preston
  • Southampton vs Sunderland
Two of ManU, Man City, Liverpool, and Spurs will be out before the quarters, Chelsea-Hammers should be solid too.

West Ham/Chelsea has been good. West Ham up 1-0, could be 2 or 3. On the other hand Chelsea has had one or two good chances as well.

2-0 and could be much more. at least 5 or 6 other chances including a rocket from Obiang and a FK from Payet both of which only were kept out by terrific saves by Begovic.

Mike Dean just turned in a throw back the clock performance at Old Trafford. I was laughing at the decisions by the 2nd half. All that was missing was Ferguson on the sidelines.

Ahem. The future champions of the Championship didn't get a home draw.

By Rafa's Hammer, this shall be avenged (someday).

Quite the opposite. Too many fixtures right now and just don't need this competition. Hearing United fans chanting "the City is ours" after squeaking out a 1-0 against City's reserves on the backs of Dean's performance was entertainment enough.

edit: meant to post but got caught up in my witty retort -- only one team deserved to win. United played a strong XI and while Herrera absolutely fouled Fernando on the goal the goal was coming and would have come in the next few minutes anyway.

Once I saw City's starting 11 you knew Pep didn't give a shit about this cup

It's cool that Newcastle will get to test themselves out against Prem competition a few times here. And probably more come the FA Cup. I have a theory that they're really a top-half Prem side as currently constructed and managed, not the marginal relegation candidate of the past few years.

Plus, you know, go Yedlin. And who wouldn't want to root for Rafa Benitez, cast aside by a team destined to be European Champions, who then followed his new team down into purgatory. His team and his supporters seem absolutely ready to run through a wall for that guy, and you can understand why. Fans of other Championship teams feel otherwise, of course, but as an un-aligned fan I'm looking forward to him sticking it to Hull and then (in all likelihood) Klopp's Krew.

Ashley's still there and Wonga's still there, both of which are gross things, but Benitez going down with them for a year is a pretty sympathetic story (might just be the Yedlin fan in me speaking).

They've already announced that Wonga will be gone next year. Ashley, well...

Honestly, I don't have a good way to end that sentence.
