Yep. Legit in between Duke and potential for a top 10 ranking as the season progresses

Key 3-game stretch starting this week. Need to take 2 out of 3 against VT, MIA, and UNC, with the UNC game being the most important of the three due to current W-L records. If they can pull that off, they've likely earned themselves a spot in the ACC Championship, even though Pitt is still undefeated in conference right now (I don't expect them to finish that way).

And our QB can't throw more than 10 yards.  Feels like this BC team - waste of a great defense with a crap QB.

don't worry, they've quit and they weren't that good to begin with. 7 points should be more than enough and they'll probably put up 30

Or maybe I forgot what having a half competent QB is like. And actually playing your best running back too.

Cutcliffe turns into such a wimp with the lead.

Duke was winning then stopped trying to get first downs.

OH WHAT DO YOU KNOW, YOU PRETTY EASILY SCORE A TD WHEN YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO!

Also Martin missed 2 FGs in regulation, including a 29 yarder shank and hit the post on a 40 something FG

Fucking joke of a game.  A wins a win but maybe this will show Cutcliffe he has a good offense when he fucking has to use it.  So use it all game asshole.

I'd say nice win but .. What an ugly game. Ugly win is better than an ugly loss I guess?
I'm 95% sure Beamer played the end of the 3rd like he did because he thought it was the 4th. And he STILL hasn't learned to not chase points early, fortunately 2 penalties helped the 2 pointer to tie. And the play calling with the ball and a minute left almost to midfield was just so so shitty. la la, let's take our time. la la.
Love what he did but it's time to go.

It can go one of two ways. They're either going to knock Duke's socks off playing a hundred miles and hour, or they'll roll over. I don't expect a close game now though.

Yeah, i think Miami's athletes will shine here off the embarrassment of last week and it could be really ugly for Duke.

If Kaaya plays I think it will be an interesting game. If he doesn't Duke will roll. Duke is the best team in the Coastal (damning with faint praise) but the difference in talent from 1-7 is pretty slim, so anyone is capable of beating anyone.

If Miami and UVA weren't rudderless ships they'd be scary, because they might be the best raw talent.

I had forgotten about Kaaya, and know nothing about the Miami backup QB situation. But yes, if he's out, Miami is missing the best pure passer in the conference, which is a massive loss for them.

As long as they take care of business at UNC next week, they're in good shape. Didn't like the result. But battled back against a jacked up team and showed some character. I don't love the talent on the offense, but they've got balls.

Yeah this game actually didn't matter. Had to win the UNC game regardless of this outcome.

When this team has to score TDs (OT, down multiple scores) they do so easily. When they are winning and Cut calls plays they suck.

I'm no Duke fan but I am shocked there isn't more outrage in this thread tonight. The refs overturned a block-in-the-back penalty which they clearly cannot do. This is easily a game that should have been protested and the protest should have been upheld.

EDIT: Just watched it again. Did Miami have players from the sideline actually running onto the field and joining the play? It sure looks like it.

Yes. Guys that weren't even dressed were running on the field during the play.

Duke gets all calls tho.

It's like Duke is the Patriots of the NCAA.

There is like a 1% chance the ACC overturns the result.

I mean one Miami player from the sideline runs onto the field and tosses his helmet well onto the field of play while the play is still going on!

Hoops is different and you know it.

That said I still have no idea how this outcome came about tonight.

Didn't realize how blatant the guy coming off the sideline was. Refs really really boned that. Like really bad. Probably can't even blame the on field refs so much as the league office, with the exception of the side judge who missed the guy being down on the 26 from < 5 yards away with a direct angle on the play

The down/not-down call was so close that I don't blame the official for letting the play unfold and counting on replay to sort it out in the unlikely event that it mattered. But I thought the replay showed he was definitely down, so I can't see why that wasn't reversed.

This might go down as the biggest officiating blunder since the Colorado 5th-down game 25 years ago.

So I wasn't even aware of this game because I was too busy having a heart attack over the ending of the Michigan-Minnesota game.

It takes some serious willful ignorance to look at that replay and conclude that there was not a knee down. And if the there was a flag thrown on the play for blocking in the back (the ESPN replay was not clear, so forgive my own ignorance) then you can't review that.

This is the kind of nonsense that I just hate about NCAA football officiating. The crew gets caught up in the moment and allows extreme caution to creep into their rulings, which results in a bastardization of the rules of the game.

It would be fair to describe me as anti-Duke and yet I am extremely pissed watching that replay.

Totally agreed that letting it play out was the right thing to do. What was weird to me is that while ESPN replayed it like 20 times, they never showed a single angle that was even close to that part of the play. All I can remember were the wide angle shots. Barely any other camera angles. Seemed weird.

As an alum of both Michigan and Duke, imagine the dual heart attacks I was having at switching back and forth between the games. Totally agreed on the officiating. Just nonsense. And if the replay officials actually did look at the block to determine it was not in the back (which is heinous in its own right), they should have also seen the too many men on the field aspect of the play and thrown a flag for that. If you are going to review non-reviewable stuff (hello Bill Belichick), then at least get it right.
