Locked up in a defensive duel with #23 Northwestern - 7-0 Duke halfway through the second quarter. A win today and perhaps they sneak into the top 25

Duke with a pair of turnovers late in the second quarter, one while driving, the other on their own 40. Still up 7-0 trying to make a big stand before the half. Feels like 17 points or less will win this

We don't have a QB that can throw the ball. It's gonna be a shitty season.

Some early thoughts from today:

-Jeremy Cash may be the best safety in the country
-Sirk looks much more comfortable today. You can tell he's trying to calm himself down when he waits in the pocket, but it's great to see him working at it
-Shaquille Powell should get some late round looks in the draft

This would be huge for winning the division if Duke can hold on and not fuck this up with Cut getting all conservative and going 3 and out every time...

Not only playing chicken shit football but snapping with 15+ on the play clock

and pick

deserve to lose. Cut has been great but I think the program has stalled out

They have no fucking clue how to manage a game

Gave away an entire minute by not bleeding clock. Un fucking real and inexcusable

I don't think they've stalled out. I think they have issues at QB as Sirk doesn't have any confidence sitting in the pocket, but the defense is the best I've seen from them in this stretch and they have playmakers on offense. But the in-game management has been poor.

The defense is finally power 5 ready as they now have athletes. They've won the past few years by outgunning other teams, which can be unreliable. They need a QB who can throw though. Maybe he'll be better as the year progresses.

I feel like both fanbases, all 20 of us combined, are really just hate-watching at this point.  Thank god I didn't start watching until the mid-2nd quarter.

And then our QB throws to a wide open TE and misses him horribly, only to be saved by said TE.  This game should end in a tie.

Mentioned it in the BC thread.

My god Cutcliffe and his offensive staff coached an abysmal second half today? No idea what they were thinking on the goalline series,  and then when they are in theory trying to kill the clock later in the game and they are running uptempo and snapping at 15-20 on the playclock

Every game against even mediocre teams they go into a shell with the lead. Northwestern, Georgia Tech, now BC. It already cost them against Northwestern and should have cost them today too. I hate it. I wrote about it earlier - Cutcliffe has been amazing for the program but dear god does he suck with a second half lead

I think part of it may be Sirk-related in that it seems like even when he is completing throws, he doesn't have much confidence. I know they're winning, but in curious how long they stick with him given his ineptitude in the passing game.

Back on track today, although Army is horrendous

Edit: just had to add - it is really, really weird to see Duke up 30-3 and have a reaction such as "solid, as expected". This level of success was unfathomable 10 years ago. All I ever wanted was for Duke to get to the level of a BC - bowl eligible every year, make a run once every several years. Ironically now BC wishes they were at Duke's level

Double edit: Texas too ;)

Easy win today and then the bye next week. Then a tough 3-game stretch that is going to decide the Coastal this year. Duke/UNC will likely decide who goes to the ACC Championship from the division.

I am still salty about that loss to Va Tech last year at home. We were in total control of that game. Payback time this year

Yeah that game and the Northwestern game this year had similar feels to me. Would love to drill them in Blacksburg, but it is a tough place to play.

For sure on Blacksburg. I didn't feel the same way vs. Northwestern just because I never felt we were in control - their D was pretty dominant

I thought we had that game until the Sirk pick in the red zone near the end of the first half. And then we were just given a million chances in the second half and couldn't move anywhere.

5-1 back to back years for the first time since 1952-1953. 11-1 in last 12 road games. Duke. What?

The NW game sucks to have lost given state of ACC.
