DD announcing live after game
Awesome! He's been raking so hopefully he gives an immediate shot in the arm.
A week look-see before the deadline
It's about time Dombroski woke up and made this move.
The way he's hitting in Pawtucket made it hard to keep him down.
His defense, on the other hand....hope it doesn't burn them.
Could he play 1st while giving Mitch the DL stint he likely needs?
I can't see his defense being worse than some of the other "solutions" that have been floated. Kinsler? Bautista?
The market for 3B is crap... So I bet this means his focus on the trade market will be RP (or a general bat)
If Hanley plays first a little, maybe he could DH to get acclimated. Lineup could use a boost.
In the 8 defensive games he's played in AAA, he's made four errors (including one today). So for as great as he's been at the plate there, he's been as unimpressive in the field.
He had 4 errors in 8 games at AAA.
Whoa, was not expecting this news.
I haven't been this nervous about a call since...oh yeah, Moncada.
I know he's been bad defensively in AAA in an extremely sss. I just don't see any better choices that wouldn't decimate what's left of the farm. Marrero stabilized the 3b D but he's clearly not the answer. And Holt doesn't deliver as an everyday player.
I hope that DD still goes and gets another bat. Devers should play against RHP to start.
Wish there was some magic developmental potion where every position player is ready both for D and O on the same day. I'm not sure he's even ready for the O, but he wasn't acting like it was a problem in AAA. I can see some DH in his immediate future. But hell yeah!
Between all the trades and call-ups, Dombrowski is devastating the farm system!
I also hope he's ready to see a steady diet of breaking balls. He's not going to be seeing a lot of fastballs or bad breaking stuff like he's seen in the minors.
Wow. He'll be the youngest player in the majors by more than a year (Bellinger is barely 22).
Let's all promise not to be assholes if he doesn't light the world on fire immediately against Felix Hernandez.
I get how they like to ease a hyped call up in on a road trip, but why not just bring him for the LA series? He'll probably sit Mon after flying cross country as well as to "acclimate", so another game lost.

Devers will hit at the bottom of the order to start. Farrell indicates platoon with Marrero, who has been exceptional vs lefties.

Dombrowski: As #RedSox kept discussing possible trades for third basemen, player-development staff kept saying Devers is ready. We'll see.

Dombrowski said trade options at the corner clearly haven't been great. Front office felt like they could get at least as much from the kid.

Dombrowski acknowledged the move is rebated to the 3B market being limited and/or too pricey
I would guess this was part of the Hanley to 1B experiment this week. I would think that Devers will get some time at DH with Hanley at first.
So ... what does this mean for brockholt?
What does this do for his "service time clock"?
He'll return to his super sub role.

"I don't want to put it on his back that we're counting on him in a pennant race.” — Dave Dombrowski on Rafael Devers, July 14
Nothing, it means Josh Rutledge is going back to coors
It starts it. What else it does depends on how long he stays.
I hope this means DDski wants to keep him, and not showcase him for a trade.
Or DD is going to find the best bat available to play 1B/DH with Hanley and put Moreland on the DL.
You guys in the good seats in foul ball range beyond the net, pay attention. This kid's fouls will get you killed. Ya been warned.
Some day - 45 years from now, Deven Marrero will talk about the time he platooned with Rafael Devers.
You don't call up your #1 prospect to "showcase" him for a trade. That's what you do with veterans coming back from injury or a slump. Teams in the market for a top prospect want him because he's still a prospect. There's value in a guy not yet being on a 40-man roster or having accrued service time.
Opposing pitcher for Devers first start? What remains of Felix Hernandez
20 years old...absolutely nuts.
Tony C hit 32 home runs as a 20-year-old ... after hitting 24 as a 19-year-old
As someone who saw his raw power and plus bat speed in Greenville...
Let the Devers era begin!
He would be still be the 7th youngest position player in AA.
Don't they usually sit their first game up?
Felix has actually been pretty good since coming back from the DL - 3.25 ERA, 1.194 WHIP in six games (36 innings). His last three games he gave up 0, 3, and 1 ER. He's not the terror he was even a few years ago, but he's no pushover.
Yes, which means he misses Paxton, Seattle's ace.
I will miss josh rutledge
Not a surprise. Let's go!
You are alone in that.
Led the league.
But this is still nuts.
Ed: I mean nuts in the sense I am having trouble processing it. He's probably one of their best 25 players.
