You think Boogie going to the Warriors will result in a decrease in interest in the NBA so significant it is going to cause BRI to decrease?
I have no idea what any of that means. I seem to remember the MLB Union having an issue with ARod taking less money than he could get.

It sounds like Cousins is not necessarily taking less money so the question is moot.

ARod tried to give back money that he was guaranteed while under contract.

Boogie wasn't owed anything.

On a one year deal where he will play 45 games... What was fair marker share? You think he could have gotten 25 million?
I think so, for a long-term deal. Overpay him this season to get him the playoffs and next 3. Maybe nobody wanted to? I would have guessed LA?

I would bet one of my kids he took less to play for GSW.

The NBA is not MLB. The players are guaranteed a fixed percentage of basketball related income. There are maximum salary limits based on years of service. The player's association is not counting on individual players to set the market, and be the rising tide that lifts all player salaries.

That's a rough move for Boogie.

If that's all he could get, he should've taken it from New Orleans to maintain his Bird rights, unless the Pelicans were just out. Not going to have many options to get paid next year if he can get back healthy.

Congrats on the ring I guess.
There will be plenty of money for him next year if he's healthy. If his choice was this deal and a ring or something around the full MLE, it's not hard to see why he'd pick the option that gives him a championship.

Has there been a single starting 5 in NBA history that all ended up in the Hall of Fame? This Warriors team may be that. Steph and KD are first-ballot, Klay should be one, I wouldn't be surprised if Dray gets in, and Cousins is on a HOF pace. The Achilles may derail that path, but wow.

I hope he was smart enough to get the Warriors to agree to co-sign his lease as a lot of Bay Area landlords might balk at renting to someone with that salary.

I don't think it's hard to see either.

I just think I would've seen the opportunity to maintain my Bird rights more clearly.

1962-63 Celtics had NINE Hall of Famers on the team.

There's a ton of cap space next year. Bird Rights aren't that valuable to a player when there is plenty of cap room. They also don't have value if you don't want to sign long term with that team (which may be true for Cousins and New Orleans).

And I believe there was a three players per team limit on the all star game.

Ed: the 1980 Celtics training camp had Cowens, Maravich, McHale, Parish, Bird and Archibald. But then two of them retired.

Of course they are, sign and trades still exist. And even if you don't want to sign somewhere long-term(we have no idea if that's true with Boogie), having the leverage of your current team being able to offer more money and an extra year than anywhere else might force other teams offers higher if he's not at the max next year.

It doesn't seem like a tough equation for me, having Bird rights give you more options than not having Bird rights.

I think it’s more likely that Cousins is cut before season’s end than makes a significant contribution to winning the title.

We are a society that greatly values winning in athletics. If you fail to win a title, particularly in a basketball, it’s a black mark for the rest of your career. Boogie has been called selfish and a loser his entire career; he can change that by playing well for GS; likely snag a ring, and prove that he’s healthy. It makes all the sense in the world for him to go there.

Like Durant; it would be much more exciting if he went on to any other non-GS team, but what are you going to do?

At least it lets us know Danny is working. Pretty scared of going into next year with the same team minus Smart.

I’d really like to nab Wayne Ellington. They need a deadeye shooter to round out the bench.
I want Ellington badly too. He can flat out shoot. The bench needs a shooter like that. If he plays game 7 against the cavs, celts make the finals.

25 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists, for $5 million a year. Golden State has been doing everything right this decade. Even if he plays the last month and the playoffs at 50%, he's better than that conga line of scrubs manning the center position the past four years.

Hopefully there are still some guys left in the NBA that would rather take down a team like that than join them. That stings coming in second again and losing a guy to the Warriors.

Smart is coming back, there isn't big money out there for him.

a healthy Kyrie, Gordon, and Theis should lessen your fear.

Throw in a buff Tatum and Brown and you should be downright giddy.

Danny also has the MLE and guys like Wayne Ellington, Mbah a Moute, Avery Bradley and Tyreke Evans haven't signed yet

And when Ainge goes in, the 86 Celts will have their stating five plus Walton.
Just a minor technicality that Ainge will go in on his merits as an exec rather than as a player however your point stands.

It’s pretty clear that most teams in the league want nothing to do with cousins. Last years trade deadline showed that and he didn’t have an injury at that point
