Good value recouped the Pats. Get a higher 1st round pick than they gave up for Cooks. They definitely will be drafting a wide receiver now.

Wow, the Rams are pushing their chips in. That’s hard value to turn down for one year.

The Pats basically got a free season of Cooks.

Surprised but not shocked by any means. Must have realized they couldn't resign him.
A lot of draft capital now should be an interesting draft. All but guaranteed this isn't the only trade they make between now and the end of the draft.

The value seems like a good return. But who is playing WR for the Pats? Edelman coming off a torn ACL, Mitchell with chronic bad knees, and Hogan? Ouch.

Aside from what feels like some weirdness of trading a first for a guy only to turn around and flip him a year later, I agree with this.

Also, frankly, I see myself being thankful I don’t have to see him next year and be constantly reminded of his last touches here.

Damn, that's really good on the return. I'm guessing it's the comp 4th and not our actual 4th but still.

It'd be nice to have the deep threat next year, but maybe that's something that gets sorted out in the draft. Can't argue the move just based on the value

Actually, when you add in White, Burkhead and Gronk that's a pretty elite receiving corps overall.

The Jordan Matthews tire kicks make more sense now. Not the same player but wonder if we see a signing soon.

That plus Britt. Which is actually not bad if everyone is healthy, although I acknowledge the size of the "if" there.

Sucks that my last memory of him is him making that dumb move on 3rd down and then getting his clock cleaned.

Very good value though. They must think Dorsett is ready for the deep ball role.

Dorsett is who he is ...I would not expect much more than what we saw from him this year.

l loved the Cooks trade when they made it, because I thought they would finally have a guy on the outside for Brady, to open up the middle of the field, but I was underwhelmed by what he ended up giving us. He was terrible at fighting for 50/50 balls, and seemed to make more than a couple of bonehead decisions in big moments, not to mention a couple giant drops. I just don't think he ended up being what they hoped he would be. I know he wasn't for me.

Now, I love the trade to get rid of him. Belichick with 2 first round picks is a dangerous, dangerous man. I fully expect more moves going into the draft, to either move up, move down, go sideways, whatever, but they'll end up with exactly what they want in the end. Brady has done a lot with lesser receivers than the guys currently on the roster, and if they just add another good receiver somewhere, the offense will be fine.

I still need someone to help me get through the loss of Dion Lewis, but this one doesn't hurt nearly as much as I would have expected it to a year ago at this time.

So at the end of the day....

Pats gave up:
- #32 pick in 2017 draft
- #103 pick in 2017 draft
- 4th round pick in 2018 draft

Pats receive:
- #118 pick in 2017 draft
- 1 pretty solid year of Cooks
- #23 pick in 2018 draft
- 6th round pick in 2018 draft

Now the Pats have, at WR:
- Edelman
- Hogan
- Mitchell (if he is healthy)
- Britt
- Dorsett
- Patterson
- Hollister
- McCarron
- Slater

And now they have the following draft picks:
- 2 firsts (#23, #31)
- 2 seconds (#43, #63)
- 1 third (#95)
- 1 fifth (#150)
- 1 sixth
- 1 seventh
- Plus some comp picks

Once again, NE can really do some work in the draft.

Maybe a bit of Patterson too?

They don't have #150 or more comp picks. They do have two sixths though.

23, 31, 43, 63, 95, 210, 219 and a Rams 6th (176, 194, 195, 196 or 198)

In a trade up or Jackson at 23? I've seen most people putting Jackson in the mid to lat 20s, so if they like him 23 could be an option
That would be my blind bet.

Rams way too smart to send two firsts for OBJ. Good deal for them as well.

I thought they got comp picks from having their free agents signed by other teams.

Kraft said within the past week that they likely would be drafting a QB.

B.B. to Kraft — “Uh, we need to replace JG and a second or third round dart throw is not going to cut it.”

I like Cooks but he wasn't a great fit and his SB performance kind of speaks for itself. Pats need to fill a lot of needs so I'm fine with this.
