Why anybody but NoDak? Doesn't the guy who basically built their rink have some precarious ties to Nazi's or something? Plus the whole Fighting Sioux issue.
Well I know Englestad owned the Imperial Palace at one time and there were rumors he was mobbed up. I'm a little hazy on the whole Nazi thing. I seem to recall hearing a rumor that he had some sort collection of Nazi artifacts... don't know if that constitutes "precarious ties"? Maybe. You realized they changed their name right? Which is bullcrap that they were forced to do it in the first place.
Big Chief Wahoo fan too? I'm not the most PC guy but theres a reason nobody uses "Fighting" to describe Native Americans anymore. And NoDak fought that much harder than most. The Irish are apparently too drunk enough to care.

Its just the pussification of people in general. No one is making the Seminoles or The Fighting Irish (which is highly more offensive IMO) change their name. I guess money talks... gotta protect the big programs and all that.

Weren't there multiple Sioux tribes UND needed approval from to satisfy the NCAA, and one voted no?
from what I recall, it all came down to the NCAA. They basically said they had to change the name. It was weird, but the tribes really didnt mind. NCAA just forced them too.
edit- i will add, not alot of people minded changing the name, but "Fighting Hawks" was probably the dumbest name you could come up with.

Well I think by the end pretty much everyone was just sick of the nickname controversy and wanted it to be over. And yes fighting hawks was pretty stupid.
Great win by qu tonight. There are a ton of North dakota Dan's here. They are like ants these fans.
IIRC this is exactly what happened.
I take my hat off to the UND fans, among the most passionate in all of sport, but having said that go QU. When it comes to college hockey I am 100% provincial. I will support eastern hockey over western teams forever. Can't stand western hockey. This stems from watching the NCAA rip off U Maine in favor of Minnesota years ago. So go Bobcats!
Somehow Kyle Connor lost out to Jimmy Vesey for Hobey. Guess they went for the career achievement this year.

Jack Eichel won it last year. Gaudreau won it as a junior. Before that, though, you have a point.
Great action that period. QU might be lucky to only be down 2-1. ND dominating most of period. Ana's being out hurts. Let's see if they can take advantage of the PP to start period 2
Apparently things changed bc Connor put up very similar numbers to Eichel (albeit in a lesser confence). I suspect voters couldn't bring themselves to handing it to two freshmen in a row.
Regardless, it's pathetic. They robbed Connor.
Caggiula has been playing at a level above everyone else in the two games and it hasn't been close.
ND dominated tonight, deserved to win, and my congrats. Would have liked to see a healthy Sam Anas on the ice, but likey would not have made a difference.
Congrats to QU on a great season. Young team, no one expected them to make it as far as they did start of season. It would have been nice to get one of these win in the NC game, but few were those who visioned QU making it even one NC game a decade ago. 2 in four years aint shabby. It's been fun to watch them all year.
