Salem just announced that Michael Chavis (along with Chad de la Guerra) is coming to Portland:

Hey - Chavis and Devers play the same position... Seems like something is up.

Normally, this would be mildly interesting, but I've got tix to see the Sea Dogs tomorrow night and would REALLY like to see Devers one last time in person. Prolly not going to happen, I guess.

I'd guess you're safe until the AA All-Star Game in a few weeks.

I'm dealing with a sinus headache that's just present enough to make my head a little fuzzy, so for a split second I thought this was about a trade and my heart sank.

Yeah, my head isn't any more fuzzy than it usually is, and I had the same reaction.

They co-existed in Greenville for a summer with Dubon. Pretty much switching b/w 3rd and DH that summer. Chavis moved over a bit, but not much. I expect something is happening with Devers, club said they wouldn't rush him to Fenway and he'd go through Pawtucket.

Can only mean one thing...everyone should just get tickets in the third base field boxes for the Angels game tomorrow.

I would hope Chavis gets the bulk of the time at 3b since he is way more raw. Febles is supposedly a fantastic fielding instructor.

It's only for a couple of weeks(working on the assumption Devers goes up after the ASB) and they can both get plenty of coaching on the side. I assume it will be split pretty evenly in games.

The Dogs also give Mike Olt a fair amount of run at 3rd. He was there last time I took my kid to a game. They're currently carrying 8 infielders, it looks like. Seems like the roster has to give at some point.

Question I should know the answer to: How many players can the Sea Dogs carry?

Edit: Looks like it's supposed to be 25, as I thought, but this has them carrying 28 active players right now, which is probably just a lack of updated information, but which three go where?

Odd that they demoted Josh Smith from Pawtucket too. Longhi was pulled last game for a pinch runner. It's possible he hits the DL and one of Devers or Chavis can play 1b. Lin has been playing a lot of CF, so that's not much of an issue. Olt you can always bench.

Even with a Longhi DL move, there needs to be 2 others. I wouldn't be surprised to see them just release Olt or Dahlstrand.

My money is on Lin getting promoted at least. Releasing Olt makes sense since Barfield is their new power threat.

Very fun game last night. Chavis his the first pitch he saw in AA for a bomb over the monster and Lin, Barfield, and Romanski all left the yard.

Sat three rows from Devers. Best look I've had at him. He seems like a really nice kid - always looking into the stands and chatting with kids in the front row, chatting up the ump.

He looks great at the plate - had a single the opposite way and always hit the ball hard while avoiding chasing slop (though Harrisburg's starter was awful, his changeup was fooling the likes of Barfield badly).

Devers butchered a bunt play, though. Might have some issues throwing the ball on the run.

Chavis was DH. Definitely a hitter - looked really comfortable and has great speed.
