He'll like it there. Great fan base, great ball park and city.

Okay, whose next in Dombrowski's office?

The wrong side of the bridge....
Made sense. With both Nunez and Swihart capable of playing OF in an emergency, and Barfield and Tavarez in the wings, Brentz and his lack of options had become a bit of a roster-clogger.

This does seem to make it far more likely that either Swihart or Holt will make the Opening Day roster.

Yes and considering Swihart is out of options and they can trim a couple million by letting Holt go, gotta think it's Swihart.

Several years ago my son and I went to a Pawsox game as part of a cubscout trip and they got to do a signing with a few players and coaches on the field before the game. All of the kids were given these posters to have signed but my kid was asking them sign his Sox cap. When he handed his hat to Bryce, Bryce removed his cap and handed it to my son to sign in return. I thought that was a cool move and Bryce gained a fan in my son that day. So that's my Bryce Brentz story. Wish him best of luck in Pitts.

Hope he has a David Murphy/Josh Reddick type career by going to a lower tier team and getting a chance to play and develop into a decent player. He had no real future here.

Funny how the baseball bounces. If a few guys in the lineup last year have good power seasons - say, Hanley, Betts and JBJ all are healthy and hit 25-35 HRs - we probably don't pursue JDM, and Brentz has a spot on the team as a 4th OF/power bench bat. Now, not so much. Too bad, as I still think there's some MLB potential there. Hope he does well in Pitt and never ends up playing for an AL East competitor...

It could easily be both, with Marrero the odd man out, if both Holt and Swihart look healthy and competent.
With Pedroia out for the early season, and Bogaerts, Nuñez and Devers all showing some kinship to Strangeglove and Scattershot, Marrero might be the team's only reliable middle infielder. Cora is going to need a defensive replacement, and Holt is probably better in the outfield than the infield.

Of course, Marrero may never reach the Mendoza line.

Could "cash considerations" mean addition to international signing bonus $, or is it just $ sent back to the Red Sox? Would be nice to be able to pad the international signing allotment as they did in the past.

It's straight cash. If it was international bonus pool money, they'd say that. Besides, there is a cap on international bonus pool money you can acquire via trade and the Red Sox pretty much hit that cap for this signing period. I don't think they can acquire future pool money...only after the new signing period begins on July 1.

OK, Thanks
too bad...seems we didn't get much for BB and he is a candidate to thrive elsewhere (or not).

Poor Bryce - finally gets what he thought was going to be a shot with the Sox - then comes JDM and he ends up being sold (not traded, SOLD) to Pittsburgh where he had a decent chance of being a backup outfielder - he went up to Bradenton, and he'd be competing with three or four other guys for the starting LF slot and/or outfield reserve. Looks like he had a shot, right? And the Pirates are in a rebuilding, looks good, no?

Then the Bucs pick up Corey Dickerson. Tampa Bay is in a "tear down" operation right now. And Corey is immediately penciled in as the new left fielder.

BB can't win.

He may not have "won" anyway with Austin Meadows coming up behind him. The window was going to be really small regardless.

Maybe don’t shoot yourself in the leg and your opportunity might come sooner.
Depends on the opportunity!

But seriously, yeah. All the people feeling bad for Bryce Brentz should reflect on his very good 2012 in AA and the AFL. Then he followed that up by shooting himself while cleaning a gun.

Now it's 6 years later and JBJ got the '13 WS ring that would have been his. Tough break, but there's no accounting for stupid.

Also, he wasn't even good in AAA until last year. He had no opportunity earlier because he was a AAAA corner OF, in that is almost certainly what he remains. If he shines in limited time with the Pirates, I am sure they will be able to find him some ABs. Maybe he will impress in Spring Training?

He hit shit out of balls in Greenville. It was like a cannon going off. He was my first man crush at Drive games.
