I didn't think it was puzzling at all when Thornton went after Orpik the first time, the puck was well behind Orpik when he went in for the hit and there's no question he went in high.  Was it a match penalty? No. But it was certainly a hit that deserved some retribution.

Agreed.  But the target area was the head, which is the issue for me.  He could have delivered just as big a check and put a shoulder into Loui's chest.   But he took dead aim at his head.  And it isn't like Loui ducked at the last instant or anything.
I agree with this.

And PSK - who I normally am in violent agreement with (suck on that sentence structure, grammar nazis!) - I guess I just disagree.  It was a high hit on a guy who's head didn't duck down at the last second.  Worthy of a penalty to be sure, and if the league is serious about taking out headshots (which it isn't), it should result in a short suspension.

But this is the NHL, and these are the Penguins.

10 games for Thornton.  Zero games for the assholes.

That's fair, and I can definitely see why people think the hit was bad. It isn't a hit you like to see made against your team, but IMO he didn't launch into the hit, and I don't think he caught Eriksson's head.

Time for a fantastic power play.

Tonight is Exhibit B. This is Exhibit A:

Exhibit C, at least. Here's some more of his work: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lUcoBa1kOaQ&desktop_uri=/watch?v=lUcoBa1kOaQ

The problem was that Couturier was not in possession of the puck and looking the other way. It's a cheap shot from a talented but cheap player. I missed tonight's action so I will have to record the replay tomorrow. I already know what to expect. Was the Orpik hit legal?

Edit: That was from a game in which he also clipped Giroux in the head and ended up getting one game. The "repeat offender" doesn't apply to Penguins not named Cooke. I will be shocked if Shanahan mentions that he's done this before if he suspends him.

Do these guys like playing with each other? Maybe it's me but they don't often know where their teammates are on the ice. Lots of passes to nowhere, players checking each other, Krug not getting a stick for 20+ seconds of Penguins attack...

Instead of shooting it to the open side of the net, he shoots into traffic and it bounces in. Sweet.
