Just to have a thread for it. Capfriendly has this as a 2 year deal at $1.2m AAV. I was under the impression that it was going to be 2 years, $1.2m total for $600k AAV.

Pretty inconsequential either way but paying him $1.2m AAV would be... annoying

with Anton back, I'm wondering whether Malcolm Subban will be part of a larger package to get a top 2 D. This year had to be his shot to be the backup (unless the throat injury was more career-altering than anticipated), so I am curious why we would get Anton back at that AAV without either Subban going somewhere or being more severely injured than has been released.

Subban will be at development camp so he should be healthy enough if they do decide to move him.

I was hoping they'd use this season to evaluate Subban at the NHL level and get an idea of whether they could leave Rask exposed in the expansion draft. At this point, teams know they'll 'have' to move Subban or risk him leaving for nothing, so I'm guessing his value will be pretty limited on the trade market.

Kind of in a tough spot though as any team trading for him would have to decide whether or not to protect him, so not a whole lot that could be done anyhow if they decide not to expose Rask.

Why would you want to expose Rask? If anything, I'd explore trading him this summer before the shitty defense in front of him drives down his trade value even more.

I like the signing, good to have a solid backup again to give Rask some rest. I'd use Subban in a package for a top 2 D and hope McIntyre develops into a competent backup going forward.
