Steve Buckley went hard after Sweeney with the timing and the Pats parade. Buckley asked why not wait until the afternoon.Sweeney said PR department recommended doing it this morning.

And he does EVERYTHING the PR department recommends without pushback. Adam McQuaid brings the PR department cookies every Thursday, so they recommended a 4-year contract. And then one day, Kevan Miller brought them cookies, too.

If it's true then they should fire the PR staff.
Its as though Neely needs to prove that its fucked up before firing them. "Look, they laughed at us. You're fired." That's not how it works.
First, you overrule them. ("Uhh...no.....lets do it after the parade, you imbecile.") Then you fire them. ("That was the stupidest idea in history."

What scares me is if current management is still around for a rebuild, since that buys them some extra time and a much greater chance to ruin the franchise for an even longer amount of time. I'd almost rather have them try and make the playoffs this year and cross my fingers that there is a cleaned house in the off season.

I'm sorry, this whole "two practices" trope is pathetic. Own it you fucking donkey.

This is straight up Cam and Donnie in CYA mode. If the team shits the bed, it's on the players, Claude or maybe even Cassidy (if need be). What a joke.

Couldn't be more disappointed and less supportive of the leadership of this organization. The timing of the announcement is a microcosm of all of their leadership style. Absolutely gutless.

That said - I hope the players take a long look in the mirror, especially the leadership group.
This. It is such a gutless move for them to do this now and schedule the press conference during the SB parade, just pathetic. And Neely is hiding behind the curtain during the PC, clown shoes organization.

God fucking dammit. This team is so fucked. I sort of hope they trade Bergeron to a team that actually deserves him so that we can get to watch him win again.

cant watch where i am...what is the 2 practices thing?
He was asked about burying this with the parade going on, and the answer was he wanted them to get 2 practices with Cassidy before they play again. It's horseshit. He blamed the PR department on the timing.

That was Sweeney's reasoning for doing it today, prior to today's practice. Get two practices in before the Sharks game.

I don't think anyone with functioning brain cells buys it - especially considering that Sweeney mused during the presser that they could have announced it during or prior to the Super Bowl and have been seen as taking the spotlight from the Pats.

This raises the question: why not yesterday morning?

He's off scouting the large, the slow and the gritty.
You know, if the Bruins had actually won a lot of Cups when Cam was playing, then his mindset of "we need guys that were like the guys I played with," while laughably outdated, might make some sense according to internal logic. But year after year those Bruins got their doors blown off eventually in the playoffs by teams that were more skilled and MUCH faster than they were. Playing 1/2 your games on small Garden-sized ice masks a lot of weaknesses, but against elite teams like the Oilers and the Penguins the Bruins were totally outclassed.

You'd think Cam might have learned from this. Apparently not.

Such crap. God this is really disheartening to see. I'm just surprised they didn't rehire Davis Lewis at this point.

Leave it to the old miser to one up everyone. Fuck this organization seriously. Call me when they sell the team.
Okay, this isn't Jeremy Jacobs. He's spent to the cap for over a decade. Yeah, his shit with handicapping the Bruins to prove a salary cap was needed sucked for us, but that hasn't been him for forever.

His kid, on the other hand, is a moron that thinks this team should compete annually and hired his good friend Cam to run the day-to-day of the team, and Cam just happens to think that toughness trumps talent. We're on the verge of Neely replacing Clemens in Boston for biggest fall from grace.

All that's left is a stupid rental trade that costs either McAvoy or Carlo (and god help me if it's both) and this franchise is right back to where they were after Cam retired: unable to adapt to the new world.

I was explaining to my non-hockey watching friend the other day that Bergeron is right there with Tom Brady/David Ortiz for favorite Boston athlete of my lifetime and that I would never want to see him in another uniform but after today and the complete lack of direction, I almost can be talked into this.

We're on the verge of Neely replacing Clemens in Boston for biggest fall from grace.

This isn't? He owns the team! I'm not talking about the cap. I'm talking about that he's desperate to not miss out on another playoff gate. Of course he still has oversight on issues such as this as does his clown of a son.

This guy is available and wants to play. And no one ever questions his grit or compete level:

Zolak calling into 98.5 on the parade route (paraphrasing):

"Hey Bruins! Good job, good effort. Biggest win in Boston history, and they hold a press conference. How pathetic are the Boston Bruins on a day like this? Losers… absolute losers."

Couldn't agree more today

You'd trade Marchand?
I wouldn't. After today they'll need to draft all the talent they can. No player is coming to the Boston Bruins willingly after today. What an utter embarrassment.

Listened to the PC in the car. Terrible overall performance by Sweeney. I can't imagine anybody listening to that and having any level of confidence that they can right the ship. Putrid.

He also said new voice a bunch of times. Cassidy has been in the organization since like 2008. The majority of the roster has played under him.

I'm in full tear it down mode. Just gas the whole roster and do it right.

Joke: I'm sure he just appreciates Reconstruction and antebellum South colloquialisms.

Serious: Schilling isn't the same. He parachuted in and won a couple of titles. Yeah, he was a key part, but he doesn't identify with Boston like Neely and Clemens did.

Serious question. Do you think its him, or is he talking with Neely's stick poking his ribs?

If Neely made this call against Sweeney's wishes, but then made Sweeney take the bullets in a press conference where he was nowhere to be found - that's so pathetic.

They're going to have to invite Goodell to drop the puck Thursday to absorb the abuse.

It sure sounds like it. Meanwhile we have Joe Sacco coaching the blue line. Think about that...makes about as much sense as Neely coaching the goalies.

I don't think they'll trade Carlo, they're too thin on the blue line, but they probably will make an enraging rental trade because the front office (wrongly) thinks the roster has underperformed.

The problem is there is no organizational flow chart, so nobody has any idea of who is really calling the shots. Neely was asked this (I think in the F&M interview I mentioned earlier) and he didn't answer and was dumbfounded as to why this was a question.

As President, Neely is Sweeney's boss so he would have ultimate authority on decision Sweeney makes. We have no idea how involved he is in roster or coaching decisions. Is he hands on giving Sweeney marching orders, or does he let Sweeney make the decisions? Is Charlie pulling strings too? Nobody knows. It was rumored that he wanted Julien gone during Chiarelli's last season, but couldn't fire him because Chiarelli had authority over that. Somehow Julien lasted 1.5 years longer than Chiarelli so I dont know what happened or who had final say on the coach once Sweeney took over. I was always amazed Julien lasted past Chiarelli.
