Not Nets-related but by qualifying for the playoffs, Memphis is sending this year's pick to Portland, meaning the clock starts on the pick owed to Boston.

Protected 1-8 in 2019.
I was hoping that the Grizz would be in free fall mode by now to get past the 1-6 protection in 2020 and be unprotected in 2021.

Lakers open the game by going down 17-0

Nets (Celtics) won't be getting any help here

4 is the new 11?
Maybe Lose took the +15.

Ridiculous line for a neutral site game when the Clippers were at the end of a brutal schedule playing their 11th game in 18 days and 8th in 12. Whenever they stretched out the lead they predictably took their foot off the gas.

Me too. But it's gonna be hard so long as Conley and Gasol are good. And there's just a better culture on that team than a lot of the bottom-feeders.

Conley turns 30 in Oct and Gasol is already 32. Randolph turns 36 this summer and Tony Allen is somehow already 35. This is a pretty old team with no good young players. In 2 years, Conley and Gasol should be in the start of a gradual decline. Any significant injury to either makes this pick situation pretty interesting. I'll be following them pretty closely after our Nets adventure sadly ends next year.

Lakers currently up 95-90 vs Memphis with 5 minutes to go. A win would tie them with the Suns and lower the Nets magic number to 1.

edit: Lakers up 106-103 with 11 seconds to go. Memphis ball.

I've said it before but the Lakers aren't in a position to tank and are just that bad. All their best players are also developing players who need minutes. They are either the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the league.
The Lakers were winning games and competitive when Deng, Mozgov and Lou Williams were in the rotation. By taking them out of the equation Lakers management has absolutely tanked.......these young kids are clueless on how to play the game resulting in loss after loss. These kids are NOT their best players but as stated above.....players don't tank for their team to draft players that will take their jobs. Who in their right mind would do that? They simply are bad NBA players right now this is why they are losing.

They started the year 10-10 and then have pretty much sucked since. Even with Deng, Williams and Mozgov they are the 3rd worst team in the league. They are 3-16 since the trade. In between, they went 2-14 in December, 5-10 in January and were 2-5 In February at the all star break. That is a 9-29 record, or a 19 win pace over the course of a season. This team has always sucked. Who do you think the Lakers are clearly better then, even with those 3 players? The Nets and maybe the Suns?

The Lakers top 5-man unit with over 400 minutes (2nd highest was under 200) with Mozgov and Deng in it were actually a +46 on the year with a DefRat of 106.1 which is better than the Memphis Grizzlies overall seasonal 106.9 which includes the skew from including playing against second unit offenses......that Laker unit was their starting unit much of the season defending well versus other starting units. The players on the second units are the ones getting the majority of these minutes now with much worse results. It is a completely different team out there with Mozgov and Deng, particularly defensively.

Mozgov was playing injured since the middle of January then shut down in early February. The Lakers were 2-15 in their last 17 games without him heading into today. When you replace 3 competent at worst veterans and replace them with young inexperiences players who wouldn't normally be seeing minutes it isn't surprising how bad this team has been the past couple of months.

Nets up at home 46-43 vs the Paul Milsapless Hawks. If they had beat the Pistons, things would be slightly more interesting.

Nets need to go 4-1 to catch a winless Suns or Lakers team.

Lakers (22-55) get: @SA, Sac, Min, NO, @GS
Suns (22-55) get: Hou, GS, OKC, Dal, @Sac
Nets (18-59) get: @Phi, @Orl, Chi, @Bos, @Chi

My google skill are lacking tonight.

If there is a tie (2 way or 3 way), do the teams just all get the same number of chances?
I think they just split the odds. So 1st place is 25%, 2nd is 17.8, if it's a tie they both get 21.4%.

The #1 seed in the lottery gets 250 of the 1000 possible combinations (there are 1001 combinations of ping-pong balls but one of them is discarded if drawn) and #2 gets 199. If there is a tie for #1, the two teams split 448 of the combinations and have a coin flip for the 449th one.

They are bad but other teams are tanking too. Suns benching Bledsoe, Knicks well everyone, etc. They are bad but they are tanking, but so are around 7 teams.

The important thing is that having a draft lottery will keep teams from tanking.

as long as they don't trade their picks with protection.

I feel ya. But I am certain the Nets are not intentionally tanking.

Thank God 3 of their last 4 games are against the motivated Bulls and Celtics ... this is like a slaughter.

And that's the end. Nets blow out Philly by 23. Next up for the New Jersey Juggernauts: hapless Orlando.

With the Nets winning three in a row, while the Phoenix Embarrassments are losing their 12th straight, this thing is going down to the wire. I genuinely wonder how explicit the motivation is in their clubhouse to not finish last and/or cough up the best pick odds to the Cs. I do believe players don't tank, but they can also be motivated to 'play over their heads' as opposed to whatever their average performance would be.

It will be nice if Orlando can pull out a win at home tomorrow. But failing that, the Nets then have the Bulls at home, who are in a dogfight for the final playoff spot, and a visit to Boston on Monday. And if it's it not locked up by that point, they go to Chicago on the last day of the season for a game that will hopefully be meaningful for the Bulls. I'm cautiously optimistic. And of course, we can get help...

Lakers' remaining games:
@SA
SAC
MIN
NO
@GS

Suns' remaining games:
GS
OKC
DAL
@SAC

Gotta be at least 50% the Lakers pick up another win, even SA and GS have nothing to play for at this point (SA isn't going to make up 3.5 games on GS at this point). Less confident about the Suns...I suspect OKC will rest Westbrook toward the end, but they have 3 games left after Phoenix so this one might be a tiny bit too early.

I hope you didn't jinx the Lakers with that. 14 point lead down to 5 now.

edit: Over. Spurs were down 40-13 at one point.

I know the Spurs didn't play everyone but the Lakers lineup that pulled this off was hysterical. Tyler Ennis was hitting contested layups without using the backboard. Tarik Black made the defenders look like chairs and was throwing dimes left and right. I actually saw Ron Artest hit a jumper.

I had to look that up... Ron Artest is still playing

This could be an extremely costly win for LA since it moves them to 3rd worst record. Now, if someone outside the top 3 jumps them, they lose 2017 as well as 2019 due to the Howard trade. If they keep this year's pick, they obviously get the benefit of Fultz/Ball/Jackson and they keep their 2019 1st since they would then have to give up 2 2nd's instead.

They now have to win out to have any chance to catch the Lakers. Not seeing another Phoenix win, but I think we're okay.
