According to a source, New England Patriots TE coach Brian Daboll will be named the next offensive coordinator for Alabama:

You can bet that Saban sought the counsel of mentor Bill Belichick if Daboll is indeed the man. Indications are that Daboll was the next man up in New England if current OC Josh McDaniels had left for a promotion as expected, but that never materialized. There will certainly be some concern among Alabama faithful that Daboll would look to return to the Pats if the opportunity should arise.

where I was last at
OC at Bama?

Saban should buy those guys in a 6-pack.

With some luck and another championship ring, Daboll's next stop after Bama might be his own college program.

Maybe Steve will switch sides of the ball?

Seems like we've been hearing a lot of rave reviews of O'Shea, so I think the Pats are confident there if McDaniels leaves.

You're right, of course, but I think the concerns are misguided. Saban is uniquely able to recruit OCs who are talented and accomplished enough to be viable HC candidates; the flip side is they won't stay long. I'd rather have Saban hire Daboll, knowing he's probably one-and-done, rather than not hiring the best possible coach for the second most important job on the staff.

Reiss is already mentioning Chip Kelley as a possibilitity. Given the hyperventilating around here about the chance Chip Kelly talking to BB during the playoffs would cause them to get "teh suck" I can't imagine what would happen if they actually hired him! Maybe them winning after Chip spoke to BB alleviated those concerns?

I do think it is more likely they stay internal though...Chip doesn't seem a likely position coach, though there is precedent from Dom Capers (an experienced DC) joining as secondary coach in the past.

I'd expect BB to go in house to replace Daboll.

Likely candidates as follows

Assistant Quarterbacks – Jerry Schuplinski
Offensive Assistant – Nick Caley
Offensive Assistant – Cole Popovich

Schuplinski got high praise from BB for preparing Brissett to face the Texans.

It's Nick Caley

Chip Kelly going from HC of the 49ers to Tight Ends Coach would be a Ruben Amaro-esque bizarre career move. And no one has ever accused Kelly of being anywhere close to as dumb as a post, nevermind as dumb as RAJ.

New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who was most recently tight ends coach with the New England Patriots, will make $1.2 million annually through 2020.

And the OLB coach is getting close to $1 million a year because he was getting DC offers. Being at Alabama is almost better than being in the NFL. You get paid more than you would in the NFL, win all the time, and get the best players annually. Not a bad gig.
