Man this is a big job for there to be no kind of coaching search, and for someone to get handed the job with only a couple seasons of high-level coordinator experience.

The timing is really odd and seems to force an interim hire. If they went outside, the rest of the staff would have to be practically the same since no, or very few, assistants are available.

It has long been said that David Boren rules OU with an iron whim. That is to say, there is no plan, just where D-Bo is today. Lincoln Riley is where he is today. D-Bo recently had open-heart surgery, and is likely to retire in a few years. I wouldn't be surprised to see D-Bo make a few more odd moves before he retires. After all, his new provost is very young and relatively inexperienced (I taught new provost's girlfriend about 18 years ago). Lincoln Riley is no different.

Hey, do you ever get the urge to tousle Kyle Harper's hair? He could be here another 30 years and I'll still think "he looks so young." Makes me feel so old. So now I'm older than the head coach, and the provost. Hope Castiglione sticks around:p

(OU Librarian, the OSU comes from my undergrad)

Yes! Kyle probably looks younger than he really is, but he does look very boyish. I teach classes that count toward that Constitutional Heritage thing he started in the Classics/Letters Department, so I knew him fairly well before he became provost. He was a smooth operator back then, too.
