Benintendi talk

Off topic. A buddy of mine use to be a basketball coach at Clemson and he once told me they get over 30,000 for their spring intrasquad football game.
That's fairly standard for football in the SE, 10 years ago. Over the past 5 years or so ESPN has been televising the spring games and it's become the latest measure of how dedicated a fan base is. 50K is now routine and the Bamas of the world get much more than that. tOSU is tops though Top Ten List

Speaking of fitting into the current crew, if Benintendi takes the full-time LF job next year, and he, Betts & Bradley all are batting title qualifiers, it will be the first time since 1942 that a team has had three full-time outfielders 5'10" or under.
I'm calling them the Brunts.

He is more than likely not going to supplant the incumbent near-elite defensive CF that started the all-star game and is putting up a .900+ ops. It probably makes more sense to play him at the outfield position where we have a seemingly unending revolving door of mediocrity.

Also, this thread could use less discussion of SEC spring football. Zero discussion of it would be ideal.

Jesus christ.

He was #16 in college. 16 is theoretically available. Marrero wore it earlier in the season.
Naw man, he's gotta do the rookie thing and take a number in the 60s or 70s or whatever. Next year he can have 16. Part of paying the dues. Plus I love my 72 Bogaerts shirt so I'd like to add to the collection.

I'm always met with skepticism. One of these days I'm going to cause real chaos by tacking 180º off my actual opinion just for the amusement of it.

There were dozens of posters on this site alone (maybe more) who knew Benintendi would eventually be shifted to LF

I am surprised that nobody has jumped on the fact that Beni has more walks than strikeouts in both college and MiLB. The list of 2016 players that have achieved this in 2016:

Jose Altuve
Ben Zobrist
Anthony Rizzo
Bryce Harper
Carlos Santana

That's it.

2015:

Joey Votto, Jose Bautista, Buster Posey, Michael Brantley, Ben Zobrist

He owns the strike zone.

It's not that rare in the minors though. Those players do generally fair pretty well though.

@timbritton: Benintendi will wear No. 40
fwiw, Dwight Evans and Carlton Fisk each wore No. 40 before switching to their more familiar numbers. Michael Martinez wore No. 40 most recently, so this could just be an on-the-road thing

What he was talking about was my stating that Benintendi was going to be in Boston by August and take the starting LF, not that he would be shifted there eventually.

Okay, but several posters and national commentators said that he would be in the majors by August. Keith Law alone must have said a half-dozen times. So, congrats, you were right; but you weren't alone

I didn't say that I was (alone, that is), someone else said that I was greeted with skepticism here when I made the statement. I just made the joke that people argued with me for the sake of arguing with me. You can relax now.

So all 3 of their outfielders could basically be defensively well-above average CF'ers anywhere else. I don't recall a better trio of fielders on this team, (unless you think Rusney projected better).

To be fair he was hammered quite hard on his prediction by another poster, which is why I remembered it.

This team is making me feel old, so many kids. Reminds me of 1967 although all the kids were older than me, and Yaz seemed like an old man. Glad Papi is still around to balance it out today, heck, even Pedey looks like an old man in this lineup.

Anyways, we do love our B's

You take Triple, which is a baseball term meaning three of something, then you throw in the "B" sound.
The Tribbbles. This is no trouble at all.
