Clemson is on another planet. BC is in a big group of decent teams that can’t compete with an elite squad like Clemson. Not a big shocker.

Welp. I was right about offense not scoring a TD. Going to be a real struggle to get another win with Perry at QB and Dillon clearly playing at like 50%. Dillon needs to shut it down. Let him get healthy for the bowl game.

I think you guys are selling Perry short. When he made his first play action pass, and seemed to be settling in, his center got the yips and ended that drive. The next drive, a holding call on yet another first down run, led to a third and 12, and on and on it went. Perry wasn't anywhere near the reason they lost today. Maybe Brown could have done more, given the experience and amount of practice time he's had, and maybe Daz doesn't turtle and shut down the playbook for three quarters, but Perry shouldn't be getting the blame. He's stepping in there, with 18 pass attempts in his collegiate life, against a team with 4 first round draft picks on the defensive line, on national television, in the biggest game the school has had in like a decade. I'm shocked it wasn't sack after sack, fumbles and picks. The kid showed me something.

Let's see how he does after a full week of reps and a chance for the coaching staff to implement an offense that plays to his strengths. Daz went into halftime talking about how EJ is an option quarterback, and yet, I don't think they even ran the option in the second half. This defense is good enough to keep them in any game, and as long as EJ doesn't make mistakes and turn the ball over, I think they'll be able to score some points. But I agree with you. They can't do shit with AJ running like this. Levy is running HARD, and he's a weapon in the passing game. They need to shut Dillon down until he's healthy and let Perry and Levy form a bond in the backfield in practice, and see what happens.

The problem is that Daz won’t give Perry a chance. The play calling that we saw tonight will repeat itself. When Daz doesn’t trust a player, and he clearly doesn’t trust Perry, he go into his chickenshit play calling mode.

Perry showed me some real toughness in an impossible situation. But I am selling on his ability to lead BC to wins as a young QB with one hand tied behind his back.

I agree with this. The QB difference was the smallest different on the field. DL 2nd. WR and DB 3rd and 4th. It's the rest of the field, and more so, off the field, that was the biggest difference.

I expect BC will hold on to a Top 25 ranking this week due to their defense, if Brown is back and AJ is healthy they might beat FSU, but no shot against Syracuse. Without either of those I can't see them winning either game

I have never seen a coach besides Daz whose feeble-mindedness imposes such an obvious ceiling on his team's performance. There are plenty of bad coaches out there, but usually they are at least trying to win. I would even put Spaz in that category, with all the limitations he had.

You simply have to be ready and willing to pull the plug on a game plan if the circumstances change. You have to have familiarity with Perry's strengths before he comes in the game (he showed several!), recognize that Dillon is not 100% and is also being hung out to dry on every single first down, adjust your attack accordingly, and not make excuses.

In Trevor Lawrence's first start, right after Kelly Bryant left the team, he got hurt and a true freshman had to come in and lead a 10-point comeback against Syracuse. Etienne was the star of that game, but Cuse couldn't stack the box like CU did last night because they let the backup make throws and play his position. He converted a crucial 4th down with a difficult pass to the sideline (10+ yards past the marker, I might add) on the game-winning drive.

Daz has proven several times over that a team he coaches will never, ever win a game like that, because he won't give them a chance to. I mean, punting down 20 points from just inside Clemson territory in the fourth quarter is a fireable offense on its own, but in the context of last night's game, it was just the cherry on top of a shit sundae.

Watching the moment slowly but surely become too big for Daz every single week is a tireless exercise. The fact that he is a pretty good recruiter and motivator makes this all the more painful. But Jarmond must be seeing this too, and I can only hope that complete embarrassment by the coaching staff last night on their biggest stage to date is the last straw. It's well past time to try something else.

I rewatched the game this morning. Figured I would not emotionally blog but sleep on it, watch the game again and comment.

Special Teams played close to if not their best game of the year. The only score was on special teams and they converted a 4 and continent situation into a turnover and good field position. Yes there was a TD punt return but This loss was not on them.

Defense played as well as they could. Kept Clemson to under 30. BC was overmatched physically on the corners and as the game moved forward Clemson took advantage of it. The D stood in there and took Clemson’s best shot. And to paraphrase Tom Petty, they didn’t back down. Clemson controlled time of Possesion by 11 minutes, had 424 total yards and converted 5/15 3rd down conversions. A solid night for the Tigers but in no way did they blow the D off the field.

The offense. Yup, it was a shitshow. Losing Brown didn’t help at all and throwing, let’s face it, a very green Perry into the Tiger den against the best team of the 2010s not named Bama when he hasn’t taken a game snap all year with the first team was unfair. Not only that Dillon is about 60% and it showed last night. Clemson took him completely out of the game, put even more pressure on Perry and with little practice what we saw was not unexpected. 113 total yards, 3/16 on 3rd down and a very conservative game plan. Nothing surprising in any of that.

Coaching? Special teams were ready, Defense were ready, offense was unable to adjust their game plan after Brown went down. Again, did we see anything different? No, we did not.

So, where done go from here? The hoopla of a possible NY6 bowl is now gone for another year. They have 2 games left against a team that appears to have quit on their coach and another one against a team that is ranked, winnng and is better coached by a better coach (SBCC better be ready for the Cuse next week). If Brown comes back I think they win at least one more game and finish up 8-4. If he is not back, along with a very hobbled Dillon, it would surprise me if they lose both games and end up in Shreveport against Arizona State.

At 7-5 and potentially 7-6, it would be very disappointing, but again would it be surprising from a career .500 head coach? No, it wouldn’t. The next 2 weeks will make/break their season. I hope they can make it.

This is kind of where I am too. Daz was a fine hire after the Spaz disaster and I do legitimately give him credit for bringing talent back to the team, bringing them back into the national conversation at least tangentially, and getting more media coverage of the team as well (Daz is not only a good recruiter but has lots of contacts at ESPN and is a good media presence - if/when he is fired from BC I almost guarantee he will end up on ESPN at least temporarily).

But an Addazio-led team is simply never going to sniff the playoff because the grind-it-out style he prefers and his own conservative gamecalling are simply not the types of strategies that will win 10 games nowadays. This year - a very good but not great team that will win somewhere in the 7-9 range depending on luck and injuries - is basically his ceiling, which is fine considering where BC was before but shouldn't be good enough for Jarmond/BC overall going forward.

    few thoughts:
i had a family thing the night of the USC game and based on the thought of us getting rocketshipped, I passed on the game, nice call huh? maybe the loss is my fault cause I was there
Robsham lot was electric, best big time atmoshpere that I can remember and I kept talking about having a 'punchers chance' and remembering Texas'76 talked myself into believing we could win.

There's a reason that the 'factory schools' win its called depth, how many of our starters could break into Clemson's 2 deep 4 or 5?

Look they are better then us, they know that, we know that and this was our best shot, colder weather amp'd up crowd, we gave them all they could handle.

going forward, i'm not counting on Brown being back this week, 'cuse or bowl game. I first thought it was seperated shoulder but buzz on Outsiders was internal organ. My first thought when I heard that was Bledsoe/Mo Lewis but I've also heard ruptured speen.

Perry and to some extent McDonald get all the reps this week and its turn and hand the ball to Levy and Bailey, I don't think AJ goes vs FSU either (high ankle sprain & shitty grass field = big fucking injury waiting to happen). 'Noles are a Louisville clusterfuck right now, if Brown and AJ were healthy this could be a walkover, now its a dogfight

They have a week to figure out what will work with Perry. The kid is really quick; I would think there would be a lot of option plays; the only reason there wouldn't be is if they are deathly afraid that Perry will go down and don't want to use what's behind him on the depth chart. And, yes, run the other guys up the middle rather than have Dillon get beat on. If he's salvageable, they need him for Syracuse.

Just turned it on to see Hamp Cheevers in the right spot at the right time again, for his 7th pick of the year. FSU had a good drive going too.

Brown is playing today? Shocked to see that. He looked to be in bad shape last week. Hopefully, Daz's insistence to keep using Brown and Dillon at way less than 100% doesn't come back to cost them the last couple weeks.

And the first play after the pick is the double reverse, pass by Jeff Smith, but he had to "throw it away." I put that in quotes, because that's what he did, but it wasn't a penalty fortunately.

Really hope Daz gives Perry a shot if this keeps up. Kid showed some good things last week, and if Brown is really hurt and not getting it done, no reason not to give a chance. One thing Perry hasn't done so far is turn the ball over, so doesn't seem there's that much risk giving him a series or two to see if he can provide a spark, especially with his legs.

Should have been a 20 yard penalty on Smith.

It amazes me that FSU can end up with someone as clueless as Francois as a starting qb. I've got to think BC defense wins this with a couple score

FSU calls timeout because they want a review of the Sweeney catch. Hopefully, BC didn't take too much time getting to the line there. I didn't see any reason to think it was incomplete, but the fans sounded like they did.

DeAndre "the Statue" Francois sacked again by Zach Allen on an outside rush, where if he just stepped up, he probably avoids it. He's got the worst pocket awareness of any big-time college program I've ever seen.

    Why burn a timeout on 3rd and 18? You aren't getting a 1st Down.

Daz finally opens up the playbook late in the game, and the offense responds. Another Dillon td makes it 21-13. I don't care how bad FSU has been this year, this would be a huge win for the program.

Uggh, on the first play following the touchdown, BC forgets how to tackle, and Cam Akers goes 55 yards, and FSU is in the red zone. Stiffen up D.

Huge third down coming up here. If BC can convert, they can force FSU to use up all their timeouts, and then another first down, and the game is over.

Dillon has almost 40 carries, and he looks like the walking wounded out there. It's 4th and 1, and BC has a decision to make. Just under 3 minutes to go, ball on the FSU side of the field, but if you don't get it, you give FSU a short field and plenty of time with 3 timeouts. If you do get it, FSU has to use all of their timeouts and the game is over if they don't stop you again. I say Daz goes for it, but last time around about 4 minutes ago, he punted it.
