This team is playing with house money now. I don’t think they’ll beat Clemson but Robinson/Bowman are good enough to carry this team on their shoulders. Popovic has been a pleasant surprise lately and need Chapman to get hot from outside. Mitchell is a perfect glue guy. Just wish we had anyone worth a shit off the bench.

I get that they’re the focus of the defense but what an epic no show from Robinson/Bowman in this one.

    1-11 with 7 points

9 point game with just under 10 minutes. If anything, it's a game at least.

And the fact that BC has the worst bench in college basketball history.

Valiant effort but don’t have the horses, especially without Hawkins.

EEI had the score of the Clemson game this morning.

And followed it with the score of a video game competition.

Is Robinson seriously considering declaring for the draft? If he does, he has to do it without an agent, doesn't he? Anyone know his socioeconomic background and whether or not he needs to go pro if it's even a close call?

He’s going to test the waters as he should but would be surprised if he’s given a 1st round grade. I’d bet on him returning but a non-zero chance that he doesn’t.

Great to finally see them competitive again. Next year could go in 2 dramatically different directions. Best case scenario Robinson and Bowman stay, the NCAA lets Hawkins come back, and Hamilton/Tabbs are as good as advertised. If all that happens it would be the best team since the Craig Smith/Jared Dudley days with sweet sixteen or better potential. Worst case scenario Robinson and Bowman both leave, NCAA says no to Hawkins, and Hamilton/Tabbs don't deliver. If that happens we'll be battling Pitt for the cellar. It'll probably end up somewhere in between.

Bowman isn’t going anywhere I don’t think. He still has a lot of flaws. Robinson could leave I guess but my guess is he comes back too. Fingers crossed

Boston College earned an invitation to the 2018 National Invitation Tournament tonight and will travel to face Western Kentucky in the opening round on Tuesday, March 13 [8PM ET]. It is the first postseason appearance for BC since 2011, when the Eagles advanced to the second round of the NIT.

(BC is a 5 seed, WKY a 4 seed, in the USC region)

(The other #1 seeds are SBCC, Baylor, and St. Mary's)

And the season ends....with a thud. Waited 7 years for the postseason and that’s what they put up. Definitely positive signs overall but that was a really bad way to end the year. Time to turn to football and a minimum 8-4 season. Have a good summer fellas. See you on the threads in September.

Robinson needs to come back and then we hope that Hamilton/Tabbs are legit. If they aren’t, we’re screwed.

probably wouldn't have won anyway, but playing in a tourney that moved the 3 point line back 2 feet didn't do them any favors

Per today's Boston Globe, Deontae Hawkins has applied for waiver for eligibility for a 6th year. The article doesn't specifically say "to play at BC" but one assumes.

Aaaand Robinson is gone. Understandable but a killer for this program. What’s another decade without the NCAAs?

Bowman is coming back. That's a relief . Still haven't heard anything about Hawkins. If he gets the waiver and the freshmen pan out they can still be decent without Robinson.

Am I crazy or is it incredibly stupid for Robinson to leave? I don’t get it. I feel like he won’t go until 2nd round and doesn’t have much of a chance in the NBA in that case. Also if he came back next year I feel like he could only boost his draft resume. I just don’t get it, but maybe it’s me

I mean if he can't make it in the NBA, why does it matter if he returns another year? He can pretty easily land a spot in Europe, so I understand why he'd want to start making a living.

I've seen several mock drafts where he's projected to go late in the 1st round, which is well over 1 mill per year to start. I wouldn't stay if I were him. I highly doubt another year at BC would get him in the lottery, so it's not worth the risk of getting injured and then having to find a real job.

I've seen Robinson go anywhere from 19-36 on most of the mock drafts ive seen. Plus he didn't play in the combine 5 on 5 which is usually a sign that he knows he will be picked in the first.

Mock draft last night on CBS Sports had him going late first round and one of the commentators (former Virginia Tech coach whose name escapes me) said he thinks Robinson will have a long productive NBA career

Once he works out for teams I think he could move up a bit and maybe go early 20s. He has decent size for a 2 and can really score, efficiently at that. If his outside shot last year was for real, along with his surprising athleticism, I think he eventually can be a starting 2 guard.

Nah because I mean its still possible he slips to the second. Chances are he goes late first though, and that money is just too good not to jump at. If he came back it would be hard for him to be much better than last year, he could always get injured, and seniors just don't go first round too often.

I get where you were coming from, but this was the time for him to go. Selfishly it sucks, because they're probably a top 15 team next year if he stayed.

Espn/Givony have Robinson going 13 in their latest mock draft. Scouts knew he could score, but apparently his athleticism and passing has surprised teams and raised his value a ton. Plus he will obviously look even better with nba spacing.

Yup. He figures to be a nice bench piece in the NBA due to his versatility. Robinson's improvement this year was pretty dramatic and I never thought NBA was a possibility for him. Went from 42 to 49% from field, 33 to 41% from 3pt, and 72 to 83% from FT line. When you have good size/athleticism, can handle the ball, and score at all 3 levels, the NBA is going to take notice. Needs to get better on defense but he's obviously not being drafted for his defense.

I like Denver at #14 and Spurs at #18 as the best potential fits.

I agree with AD Jarmond here. Robinson leaving early, and doing well on the next level, is the best thing for the future of recruiting at the program. Such a refreshing change from the past.

I kind of disagree and think Jarmond is trying to sugarcoat things a bit. With Robinson and Bowman, BC would have had a good chance of making their first NCAA tournament since 2009. Amazing that it's been a decade. Without him, we're still in the wilderness with no real shot of escaping.

Jared Dudley and Reggie Jackson have been good NBA players and what exactly has that done for our recruiting? Most of our competing schools have similar or better players in the NBA so Jerome doing well in the NBA isn't really a differentiator.

The most important thing for a program is to show progress on the court and to generate fan interest. You can't do the latter without the former and losing Robinson is a huge hit to the program. Next year, Bowman is likely gone. I don't see this team making the tournament for several more years.

Not a big hoops fan as you all know but it is interesting to note that BC has been to the tournament 18 times in the last 60 years (Their first trip was in 1958). Of those 18 times, they have been to the Sweet 16 9 times and made it to the Elite 8, 3 times.

Point is the program has never been a juggernaut. You can see where they usually get a class or 2 and they have these 3-4 year runs where they make the postseason. When they play in the Big Dance, historically they do pretty well (50% of the time they make it through the opening weekend). The only exception was from 2001-2011 where they went to the tournament 7 times and the NIT twice.

BSF is correct that the only way you build the program is by winning on the court and putting fannies in the seats so the arena is a place recruits want to play. The overall history of the program is fairly mediocre to be honest, with 29 post season appearances in 60 years, or a .483 post season appearance percentage. You know, right around a .500 record......kind of like another revenue sport over at The Heights, that has a .484 winning percentage since 2013......hmmm, looks like a pattern here.....

Is Herren's kid going to help, or just fill out the bench?
They also just got a commitment from Jay Heath Jr for 2019, a 6'1" shooting guard from VA. The article in the link says he's 4 star, ESPN has him 3 star. Sounds promising, but hard to tell.

This is old news, but I just saw that Hawkins isn't coming back. From what I read it sounds like he could have gotten the waiver, but at 24 years old he decided it was time to move on and make some money in a league overseas.

Herren can help on offense, but needs to get stronger and will probably struggle on defense. But he can score the ball for sure.

I read on another board Herren's a preferred walk-on but no idea how much truth there is to that.

From what I understand, they had to word it as signing a financial aid agreement for them to publicize his addition to the team because right now is not a signing period.

Not really sure on that. All indications I have seen are he is a walkon for the 2018-2019 season, seemingly with the expectation that he will most likely redshirt and then receive a scholarship for 2019/20 and beyond. They only have one scholarship available for 2018/19, and are still trying to fill that with a 5th year transfer preferable at Guard. they did lose out on Ehab Amin, who had visited last week.

Herren was 2018, reclassified to 2019, and then reclassified back to 2018 to join BC.

I saw Herren play twice this year so take this with the typical SSS grain of salt. He was NOT the best player on his team (I don't recall the kid's name, but the other player is a guard headed to a mid-level D1 school). Herren had very poor shooting games in both games but you could tell he had skill. But (and this is a big BUT), he was playing against two mid-level ISL schools, and while they were pretty good, they were not the iron of the ISL (Milton, Belmont Hill, Brooks are the iron). Herren did not dominate. He looked good, had great vision and was clearly one of the best players on the floor, but if he's not dominating mid-level ISL teams, what does BC really have?

I think to answer your question, it probably has a guy sitting on the bench for a couple years who only gets gametime in blowouts. I think the hope is that he develops into a decent role player by the time he's an upper classman.
