So, it's either Vigneault or Luongo that gets shown the door, right? No way they come back with that tandem after this.

I think both.

Vigneaeult has cost himself a job this year (and thank god...hopefully we have at least 1 year without having to hear him fucking bitch).

Luongo is a $5.5 mil back up goalie for the next 10 years. The real question is, who wants to commit that kind of money and years to him? He trailed Tim Thomas in both GAA and Save % this year, and I think we all know Timmy wasn't exactly a world beater. He'll be 43 when his contract is up, and he clearly folds under pressure. Vancouver did a pretty good job of sabotaging his trade value this postseason as well. He had 1 year as a top 3 goalie, and a few years as a top 10 goalie.

The Canucks are going to have a hard time giving Luongo away.

Had Philadelphia not gotten Bryz last year and they still had the pile of crap they have back there they would have been a match. Though its always possible that Toronto somehow gets involved.

Statistically, Luongo isn't a bad value for the next few years; his salary dips below his cap hit after 2017-18 when it goes $3,382,000 - $1,618,000 - $1,000,000 - $1,000,000 to finish out the contract. Pretty feasible IMO that he retires before the last three seasons, leaving him right at age 40 and making the remainder of his contract really 7 years at an average of $6,238,000 in real dollars with a $5,333,333.33 cap hit. Pretty awful, but not DiPietro/Gomez-awful. He hasn't had a save percentage below .913 since 24 games in '99-'00 on Long Island.

Call me crazy, but I think they'll find a taker. I still believe the Tampa scenario I outlined earlier is feasible:

As mikeford has said, if Jeff Carter can be traded twice in a year...

I see Tampa as a likely potential landing spot for Luongo. Just like when they acquired Gagné, they won't be giving up a whole lot, but they don't have to clear much in addition to Roloson's $3.5m coming off the books, and if they send Garon's 1 year, $1.3m to Vancouver as part of a deal that'd negate it even moreso. Eddie Lack gets a job in 2013-14 backing up Schneider, Tokarski is sold to the highest bidder (likely Columbus), and Luongo waives to play on a team that underachieved this season almost solely due to its goaltending.
Adding to that, they're still in a contending window with St. Louis and Ohlund able to perform and Stamkos being... Stamkos. They'd be a playoff team with Luongo, no doubt.

edit - for reference:

Yeah, Tampa makes sense. Luongo and Yzerman have history from the 2010 Olympics, so that seems like a match. Frankly, as fun as it is to shit on Luongo, he's not the reason they are golfing today. The Canucks have scored 14 goals in their last 12 playoff games, and one of those was an ENG. 1 goal per game isn't going to cut it no matter who is in net. Schneider had a 90+ minute shutout streak across games 4 and 5, and they managed to score 2 goals during that stretch.

Also, the article SidelineCameras posted indicated to me AV will be back. They are still whining about the Sedin/Keith hit, so there's the scapegoat. They'll keep on plowing ahead. Also, it is funny how the AV and the Canucks players don't agree with the Torres suspension, but they all wanted Marchand executed after the Salo hit.

Edit: I got the threads mixed up. The article I was referring to is posted in the Shannaban thread.

I think Toronto and Tampa both make sense. Of course, Luongo doesn't seem to like the pressure, so going from Vancouver to a bigger pressure cooker in Toronto doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Don't forget he has a NTC.

I think Tampa makes the most sense, I just wonder if they think the investment is worth it. They were able to milk a good playoff run out of Roloson for cheap. You have to wonder if they either...

A.)Would rather try to find an average goalie on the cheap

or

B.)Want to bring in a guy under a contract that will run through his early 40's after watching Roloson turn back into a pumpkin this year.

Still makes sense to me, and there obviously is always a need for a top 10-12 goalie. I just have to wonder how much the "choker" label affects his value. His first year with Vancouver was practically pressure free since he was almost playing with house money in the first playoffs of his career. He only won 1 series that year, against the Dallas Stars who were ranked 21st in overall offense that year. He then put up a 2.66 GAA to Anaheim. Since then, his playoff numbers look like:

49 games, 27 wins and 22 losses, .908 save %, 2.69 GAA

That doesn't exactly instill confidence that he'll be the guy to take you to the promise land. In fact, you can seriously argue that you may never win with him as your #1 goalie if you believe that he's a playoff choker. In the end, one great quote from wikipedia tells you all you need to know about Roberto Luongo. In game 5 against the Anaheim ducks, an elimination game, Luongo put up his best showing of the playoffs by posting 47 shots and only giving up 1 goal. He was then pulled before overtime and replaced with another goalie.

At the start of overtime, Vancouver unexpectedly switched goalies, later revealing Luongo had an untimely case of diarrhea.
Yep. That seems about right.

I'd never heard that, but you are right on. I vaguely remembered it being an equipment problem, but I guess the real reason didn't get too far outside BC after the playoffs

Also, I agree that it would make more sense to stay completely away from Luongo, but given his 4 year, $5.625m AAV, 35+ extension to Martin St. Louis kicking in at age 36 and signed almost a full year before St. Louis's current deal was set to expire (as well as a 4 year NTC extension to 32-year-old Eric Brewer), I think it's safe to say Yzerman isn't too risk-averse when it comes to old age.

I wonder how the NTC will play. It's not just that Luongo ends up getting to choose where to go, it's that the team taking him on then has to basically understand that restriction.

I'd imagine his next team will be his last regardless of a NTC.

It's one thing to get replaced in one big situation (Vancouver). If he fails/underachieves/is replaced in a second - at that price - who would possibly take him then?

Hey if the Canucks want to blame this season's failure on the Bruins too I have no problem with that!

I guess we have to wait to see what Johnny Canuck says to know for sure

Looks like GM MG realizes his job is just as much on the line as Vigneault's, especially after dealing a guy with Hodgson's potential for a 2nd-3rd line tweener. Good on ya, Mike.

If/when he gets canned by Vancouver, you can schedule a press conference in Montreal 48 hours later.

Was talking about that possibility with El Gatisimo.

If it's Roy: GM, Vigneault: Coach in Mount Royal, I'll move back just for the comedy

Funny that the Bruins-Canucks game seemed to sap the winner (if it actually did) in that it also seemed to knock the Bs off their game for a while.

Happily, the Bs aren't nearly as into excuse making as those douche bags and happily, the Bs eventually righted the ship.

Canucks Elimination Day isn't exactly the same as YED for me but it's still a very good day indeed.

And I'm still trying to figure out which moment was better -- Marchand's battery of a Sedin or Thomas' flattening of one. I have a great shot of the latter and was unable to find a picture of the former for sale. But why choose? Two classic moments.

An eulogy for their season:

I know it's been said that the Canucks avoid excuse-making like the Sedins avoid defensive-zone faceoffs, but come on everyone, they had a bunch of very legitimate excuses this time around. For one thing, there was Daniel Sedin. He was way, way, way too injured to play in the first three games of the series, which is what made his recovery just in time to prolong the team's prospects ever-so-slightly in Game 4 so miraculous.
It was as if the Hockey Gods themselves reached down from the heavens and made all those clouds swirling in his brain go away all at once, and, at last cobweb-free, he was able to save the team's bacon that one time. Just the one time, mind you. But that has to count for something.
And how about the goaltending situation? That's not easy on anyone. No one seemed to know from one day to the next whether Alain Vigneault would start his franchise goalie or his franchise goalie, and that can't be especially helpful.
Poor Roberto Luongo, who lost two games in this series and will almost certainly be shipped out of town this summer, but hooray for Cory Schneider, who lost two games in this series and will be sticking around.

Looch says he's done with the city. Says he won't defend his home city anymore, and outside of Rogers Arena you won't see him in downtown Vancouver ever again.

Also he claims he's pursuing legal action.

Indeed. Ouch.

@HackswithHaggs: Milan Lucic: "Other than being at Rogers Arena, you'll never see me in downtown Vancouver again. I'm done trying to defend city I'm from"

Start new threads people.

This definitely highlights the difference in today's hockey players - if this happened in the 70s, there would have been a good ol donnybrook with the entire team.

I just watched the video a few times...I don't think that CBS link is correct in accusing Lucic of dropping the "Do you know who I am?" card. Pretty sure it's the other guy.

Even if it was, the guy should know who he is before picking a fight with him. At least that would be fair warning to him about who is about to dismember him.

It's been a few years since the B's smacked the Canucks around in game 7, and I thought my hatred for these fuckers has faded.

But going back to the start of this thread and remembering the shit they pulled the year after the B's won the cup...

I forgot all about them jumping a Bruin in a 5-on-1 fight.

Merry Christmas Vancouver. I hope you are all Cory Lidle'd on your way home to see your asshole families.

My favorite part of the is Henrik Sedin slipping off onto the bench right before the madness breaks loose.

I remember a lot of people around here were pissed the B's lost and complaining about what a circus that games was- how the Bruins took themselves out of the game by running around trying to fight. To me that was exactly what they needed to do- they held themselves together for 7 games of those punks being a bunch of cheap pussies. A regular season game meant nothing in comparison to letting them blow off some steam and actually get to take some well deserved shots at those clowns.

God, what a shitbag Lapierre is. At least he agreed to fight someone smaller than him.

How about Looch getting booted from the game (only to have the league office admit "oops, he actually didn't do anything wrong"?)

IIRC, the 6-on-Thornton led to a full 2:00 5-on-3 for Vancouver.

The crap and hypocrisy spewing from the mouths on the Vancouver side after the Marchand low bridge still pisses me off.

Yup, just re-watched. A full 5 on 3. They scored at least once on it, and won the game by a goal.

I also always enjoy the YouTube comments from the Canucks fans. Lucic committed a cheap shot by attacking Canucks from behind (who were attacking his teammate 5 on 1). Maybe Lucic got booted for being the seventh man in a fight.

They blew a 2-0 lead in a series they thought was a coronation and then their fans burnt down their own city in response.

Nothing really to do with the Canucks besides laugh at them, the battle and the war are both over as far as any "rivalry" with the Bruins even if Vancouver wins the next 200 regular season games.
