sam (nyc): Rusney Castillo was the biggest dropoff from the preaseason Top 50 (I think) - what is the concern regarding him?
John Manuel: Mostly with a player of his age, it’s about production. Castillo’s 27 and just hasn’t produced yet. For me, that’s what I’m looking for. It’s different for a teen in low Class A such as Yoan Moncada, but Castillo was paid to produce at the big league level, not develop. He hasn’t done it, for a variety of reasons, and his Triple-A performance has been more solid than spectacular.

 

Ed (Surrey): Is Sano a fair comparison for Devers?
J.J. Cooper: No. Devers is growing into his power but Sano had massive power the day he signed with the Twins as a 16-year-old. Devers is much more of a hit-over-power hitter.

 

Les (Hunter): Anderson Espnoza is on track to rise from DSL to NYPL in single seasonas a 17 yr old. Was he in the conversation or did you hold off until you've seen more of a track record?
J.J. Cooper: No. He needs much, much, much more track record. You’re talking about a guy who currently has two appearances in the States.

 

Jason (Dallas): Correa or Bogaerts? And how close is it between the two?
J.J. Cooper: Give me Correa. Bogaerts is a very good young player. I’d rather have Correa than any other shortstop in the majors right now.
