Mets getting blasted again by Arizona at home looking to finish off the sweep, 9-0 in the 6th. This will drop them to .500, things are looking ugly in Queens.

Edit: Wow, they've given up 13 SBs in the 3 game series, most in team history.

Yeah, the offensive... offensiveness has finally been followed by the pitching going from great to pretty good (Harvey -> Verrett doesn't help), which creates a sub .500 team.

In their 3-2 extra innings loss to Arizona, the Mets went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, dropping their season average in these situations to .203. Only the 1969 Padres, who hit .201 with men in scoring position, were worse, dating back to at least 1913 (the earliest season Baseball-Reference.com has situational statistics).

They came into Wednesday’s game in a tie with the 1968 Mets (who hit .204 with runners in scoring position) for the second-worst mark ever.
At some point I'm sure we'll see a deeper dive into this, but the Mets had a very odd combination of power with low batting averages, which has led to a lot of solo HRs but very little big innings... and with Cespedes/Duda/Wright out (and Granderson also struggling), even the solo HRs are gone.

That's an understatement
“@AnthonyDiComo: Terry Collins ranted for three and a half minutes to open his postgame presser, said, ”That’s all I’ve got to say,“ got up and walked out.”

Also they're in a clubhouse meeting now post-game that has lasted longer than ten minutes, which I guess violates the CBA.

Manny Machado just grounded out to third. The A's third baseman went pretty far to his left to the ground to get the ball, did a 360, then another 360 and threw him out. Sometimes I wonder that if some guys don't get a clear cut base hit if they even give a shit enough to hustle.

Zach Duke would fit right in to the Sox pen right now. Starts the 11th: single up the middle, infield dribbler for a hit, bloop to left that hung up for an out, walk, then K's Bryant somehow, and walks Rizzo on 5 pitches to end it.

Rizzo should not have walked. It was 100% a strike

Indians stole 8 bases last night. Rajai swiped 3 and so did Jose Ramirez. Kipnis & Lindor with one each. Said they saw something in Skaggs delivery.

Giants not helping us out, just gave up 7 runs in 7th-9th to likely blow a series win against the O's

The Giants don't have anything better to talk about? They are "celebrating" the 30th anniversary of Mike Krukow's 20-win season in 1986, doing a "what did Mike do on today's date" thing. Um, what?

Krukow's become a local legend as an announcer and has been battling a neuromuscular disease. There might be more than a tinge of sentimentality at work there

Plus it fits in the with the vibe of their broadcasts--I bet there was some self-deprecation from Krukow, and some loving appreciation too (because he's fucking awesome).

The Giants broadcast is perfect to me, so maybe I'm not the guy to ask, but that celebration sounds awesome.

This has to have been intentional, right? A political statement and/or publicity stunt by the DJ.
Political statement? Dude was suspended for beating up his GF in the offseason. Seems pretty cut and dry what happened.....

A Nova-Cain match up in SF today. Giants Bochy left Cain in to give up 6 runs to the Pirates in the 5th inning turning a 4-0 lead into a two run deficit. MLB did the game with a sabr slant and the commentators were really on Bochy to make a move especially with righty masher Matt Joyce pinch hitting with the bases loaded (on 3 walks and a hit batter). Joyce singled in two. Cain's last pitch was a 2 run HR to Cutch. Then the loogy Lopez came in.
Pirates ended up winning 6-5. SF has lost 21 of 30 since the break.

Tonight's Mets/Giants game is wild. DeGrom/Bumgarner, you'd think it would be a pitcher's duel, and it was briefly, scoreless through 3.

Then, top 4, Bumgarner walked a couple of guys, bases loaded, and Justin Ruggiano, first day off the DL, hit a grand slam. The Giants came back and scored 5 in the bottom of the 4th, capped by a two run HR by Bumgarner, so 5-4 SF after 4. Then the Giants scored 3 more in the 5th, knocking out DeGrom (8 ERs on 13 hits, yikes), but then the Mets came back with 3 of their own in the 6th, so 15 runs combined in 5 half innings, 8-7 SF and they are threatening again in the bottom of the 6th.

The Orioles hit 4 HRs in the first off McHugh, and Miley gave it all back before they even got up a second time, 6-5 HOU in the second now.

Indians with a walk-off inside-the-park home run, dropping the Blue Jay's division lead to 1/2 game

(And in the home plate pile up, someone holding what looks like a plastic serving tray? I have no idea what that is.)

Baltimore pitching is finally falling apart, there's obviously something physically wrong with Tillman, velocity way down tonight after having his start pushed back, and he was shelled (2 6 6 6 5 0). I'll be surprised if they make the playoffs, I think that second wild card is up for grabs.
