I'm so pissed at myself for not keeping Hoskins on my keeper team. Had on my team for a short while, figuring Philly would call him up last year, and when they didn't, I dropped him. Now has 11 homers in 18 games.

In 2007, the Indians' "home" opening series ended up being played at Miller Park. They had already had an entire series hosting the Mariners postponed because a Cleveland storm had dumped a foot of snow on Jacobs Field. Funny how Bud Selig managed to make money for Milwaukee in two of the three incidents mentioned.
In the Astros' case, they dragged their feet on relocating their games and passed up opportunities to play in Atlanta or St. Pete, and by the time they agreed to move, Milwaukee was the only option left. In fact, the Astros were insistent that the games be played in Houston as scheduled (or as double-headers late in the weekend). MLB, rightly, refused to let the Cubs fly into the storm.

From Astros.com

After their game against the Angels, the Astros will fly to Dallas and assess their travel plans ahead of a scheduled three-game series against the Rangers starting Tuesday at Minute Maid Park. At the time of Astros manager A.J. Hinch's pregame meeting with reporters Sunday, the series was scheduled to go on as planned.

...

Hinch said backup options for their series against the Rangers, and their weekend series at Minute Maid Park against the Mets, have been discussed. But nothing has been finalized as Hinch also recognized the possibility of playing the series against the Rangers at Globe Life Park.

"I have no idea what would ignite that and begin the process of that," Hinch said of moving the series to Arlington. "That's for the league, the club presidents and the GMs to discuss. We just play where they tell us."

So the Astros will "host" the Rangers for their scheduled series this week at Tropicana Field in St. Pete. Likely they'll be playing more home games in St. Pete (a scheduled home series against the Mets) as the city of Houston recovers.

Apparently, the first choice was to play in Arlington and switch out a September series scheduled for Arlington and play it in Houston (conditions permitting). The Rangers refused, preferring to have all the games played in Arlington with the Astros being the home team for this week.

Seems a shady thing for the Rangers to do to try to get a few extra home games, even if they weren't treated as the home team for a few of them. In spite of how it might affect the Red Sox chances in the race for the best record in the AL, I hope the Astros curb stomp the Rangers.

F that. Shady for the Astros. The storm isn't the Rangers fault. Just play it in Arlington. How is playing in Tampa helping Houston/Texas? Dallas is still closer to Houston than Tampa, especially when you consider people escaping the Gulf to go north.

"The Astros will play their upcoming home series against the Rangers at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, after the teams were unable to agree to a scenario in which this week's games would be played in Arlington, Texas, after flooding in Houston forced the relocation.

Astros president Reid Ryan told Houston reporters that the team had proposed a swap of dates with the Rangers for a series scheduled for Arlington in late September.

"We went to the Rangers and said, 'Hey let's switch series. You guys have our home series,'" Ryan told Houston reporters. "'We'll take your home series.' They rejected that and didn't want to do that. The Rangers wanted us to play the next three days at their place, but they did not want to trade series with us. They wanted all six of our games at their park."

Texas general manager Jon Daniels told reporters in a conference call that the Rangers had concerns for their fans who had bought tickets to the September series. Further, if they made that swap, the Rangers would not be home for the final four series of the season, from Sept. 15 on."

And now the Astros are playing 19 straight away from home. Lol boo hoo for the Rangers and, especially, their fans ... whose homes aren't in the process of being destroyed

Maybe I misunderstood, but I heard that the Rangers offered the Astros management the profits from the series, if they wanted to play it in Arlington. By choosing rather to make both teams go to Tampa Bay, they are giving up that box-office money. Seems a strange choice, but I guess they are strong believers in home-field advantage and thought that the Astros would be more likely to win the series if it were played in St. Pete?

Playing a home series in the Rangers ballpark, in front of Rangers fans, is basically an away series.

Dylan Bundy throws a complete game, 1 hitter for the Orioles, with 12 k's. That's double digit k's in 3 of his last 4 starts.. The hype that surrounded him coming up is starting to look real.

He's been throwing his slider more and they've been giving him increased rest between starts after a rough patch in the middle of the season following his excellent start.

Astros used to have spring training in Kissimmee. Might get 12 fans over to St. Pete.

Or ppl that want to watch 2 teams that don't include the Rays.

Eric Thames hit his 28th HR tonight. He now has 53 RBIs.

He has driven himself in more than all his other teammates combined. I don't know of an easy way to find HR to RBI ratio, but from a couple of articles I've found from a few years ago, it appears nobody has ever done this while hitting 25+ HR...ever.

Closest I found:

1. Barry Bonds: 45 HR / 90 RBI (2003 Giants)
2. Mark Bellhorn: 27 HR / 56 RBI (2002 Cubs) !!!!!!!!!!!

Damnit...the "few years ago" came back to bite me. Looks like Granderson AND Gyorko both did it last season, with identical 30 HR / 59 RBI lines. Still, it looks like it could be a ratio record for Thames.

Kevin Maas hat 21 HRs and 41 RBI in 1990. It's not 25 but w/e.

Ender Inciarte went 8 for 10 in a doubleheader today, one hit short of the record.

Strasburg with a 110 pitch CGSO over the Marlins. 4-0. His 2nd in his career. He also tripled and homered.

Schwarber went into tonight with 22 homers and 44 rbis. After tonight, he's at 24/48. Gallo is now at 36/69. Lucas Duda is at 25/52 between his two teams this year, and Brandon Moss is at 17/34.

Pretty remarkable. Gallo is up there for fewest RBI per HR. Last year Granderson had 30 HR and 59 RBI.

According to a thread I found, here are the top 20+ HR seasons with the lowest RBI ratio:

Barry Bonds in 2001 (yes, **that** season): 73 HR with 137 RBI (1.877 RBI / HR)
Kevin Maas in 1990: 21 HR with 41 RBI (1.952 RBI / HR)
Chris Duncan in 2006: 22 HR with 43 RBI (1.955 RBI / HR)
