Just came to post that. Incredibly bad break for everyone involved, you hate to see it.

He has actually never missed a playoff game.

He's pretty damn durable. The broken leg when he smashed into the post in Boston is his only injury. He has bad luck in Boston between that and taking a Johnny Rocket to the face. His other 7 seasons he has missed a grand total of 8 games.

Huh, I would've bet he'd missed at least one! For some reason, I thought the leg injury was later in the season, but it was only that he came back pretty late. Didn't hurt his play too bad - 4 points in 4 games in the playoffs that year.

I think you just want whichever team loses to do so in regulation and keep losing through the weekend. A Detroit regulation loss makes tomorrow night a virtual play-in game for the last spot in the Atlantic.

Don Maloney is the first casualty of the day.
This has an interesting tie to Boston.

For the mobile people, EJ Hradek implies that Coyotes ownership was down with Dougie for 3rd overall at last year's draft. Maloney shot it down. Of course, Hradek also says Dougie is a 2nd pair defenseman like that's all he'll ever be, but it does shade things a little differently.

Possibly another indication of Dougie's commitment/personality/whatever...
He's turned down the offer to play for Canada in the World Championships.

This wouldn't seem to be the best decision for someone apparently trying to clinch one of the final roster spots for Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey.

Marchand is in a similar situation, except he's trying to make Team Canada, and has already agreed to go.

Ugh we can't make fun of Toronto anymore. These are both solid deals for them.

Yep. Leafs are becoming formidable. They finally have a competent decision making group in place.

They sucked this year but have a bevy of young talent on the way up. The Marlies have been a juggernaut this year. William Nylander got a cup of coffee this year and I'd assume Marner is with them next season. They also have the best odds at #1 overall and will pick no later than 4th in the up coming draft so they could be adding a Matthews or Laine into the fold. They could be really scary in a few years of they manage things correctly. This doesn't even account for the Stamkos possibility.

Parise and Vanek out indefinitely for the Wild with UBIs. Might be a short series for the Stars.

Also just realized the Stars are playing the Wild, so some fun relocation drama there.

What else are they going to do?

I like Bruce and I'm sure he'll be behind a new team's bench come October, but how much longer could the Ducks continue banging their heads against the wall in the playoffs?

Bruce Boudreau has won his division in every season that he has coached all 82 games. (and other fun facts from Ryan Lambert's article on Puck Daddy)

The other fun stat sheet I've seen running around:

I get that, but he is 41-40 in the post season. He's turned 8 division titles into a total of 1 conference finals appearance. His teams are always 1 and 2 seeds with home ice that get bounced by lower seeds. It happened in Washington and it happened in Anaheim. It's not all the goalies fault. At some point you need to have win in the playoffs. The players are at fault too so I'd expect major changes there for Anaheim too.
