Why would the cavs do that deal with the C's though? They would have to really love Jeff green.

Well he would definitely be an upgrade at SF for them.  He also had his best game of the season against the Cavs a few weeks ago.  Maybe they don't know how mediocre he is most of the time? I agree it's unlikely they do that trade, but I don't think its impossible.

I actually like Green well enough, but I would give him up for the right to dump Lee and get a 1st round pick.

I hate Bynum, but his contract works nicely to help clear the books, which is the only purpose he would serve for the Celtics.

I think Gasol for Bynum is a better deal for the Cavaliers than anything the Celtics can offer. It depends on what the Lakers take in addition to Bynum to make the trade work. The return of Earl Clark?

If they really want to clear salary space -- moving Gasol doesn't help them there -- the Lakers could bring in a third team to sop up the shitty player (cause it ain't going to be Varejao) that Cleveland needs to move to make the salaries work.

The Lakers will want Clark, since his contract is not guaranteed after this year. Thus, they would save a ton of cash now, avoid the luxury tax number in 15/16, and have no cap hold this summer, thus allowing 1 max + another 10M+ to spend on free agents this summer.

I imagine the hold up now is that the Lakers want a draft pick from Cleveland, who has a ton of them, and are willing to wait until right up until the 6 January deadline.

Why would the Cavs give up a draft pick to dump Bynum? They can just waive him and save $6M. It's the Lakers who will save huge amounts of luxury tax dollars by dumping Gasol. They should be giving extra consideration, not Cleveland. And why would the Cavs want a one year rental of Gasol? They're not going anywhere this year.

I will be shocked if Bynum is traded at all.
