In the opener the Indians became the first AL team to score a run in every inning as they beat the Red Sox, 27-3, in two hours and 10 minutes. Lefty O'Doul pitched the middle three innings for Boston, giving up 16 runs (13 in one inning). That was the last of four years as a pitcher before he converted to the outfield because of an arm problem. He went on to hit .349/.413/.532/.945 in 3658 PA. While Lefty never made the Baseball Hall of Fame in this country, he was elected to Japan's. He had a lot to do with establishing baseball as a sport in Japan in the '30s and managed in that country for several years.
