Cowboy the fuck up.
Price versus Verlander on the road in the playoffs.
I have to record game 5 and watch it on delay starting about 1 am.
Not sure if the game will even be over by then.
Hopefully, the series will be over by the time I reach the end of the playback.
Keep the Faith! Enjoy the game thread. Win the Game!
Yeah Price! Yeah playoffs!
lil pregame video work
So what's the plan? Price for 3-4, Workman for 2-3, Edro for 1-2, Hembree as the mid-inning guy and finish with Kelly and/or Barnes?
Know what'd be great? If the top of the order would absolutely thump. For one game. Or five, you know. Whatever.
Cora has Kimbrel try for the first NINE out save of his career.
I could not stay up for the amazing game last night but enjoyed reading the game thread in full
I would like to call for official game thread apology retractions by the handful of clowns talking shit about KEITH FUCKING FOULKE
YOU DO NOT TALK SHIT ABOUT KEITH FUCKING FOULKE. The End
Let’s go Red Sox book yourselves in for a nice cozy 5 day rest
Also it’s completely mental that Kimbrel has an era close to double digits has let something like 14 of 28 batters reach, Sales knackered, Price haven’t been great, porcello was pretty bad and none of the top of the order has really hit anywhere near their normal level but still we’re up 3-1 in the ALCS against a team that at times look impossible to get out have a defense that’s gotten to everything and has several of their big names playing lights out
How about the Stros pen... who’s available if sox can chase Verlander early? Obviously not James... Presley and Sipp off limits also?
5:09 PM on Tuesday, 8:39 PM on Wednesday and now 8:09 PM tonight. This is VERY confusing. What's a Severino to do?
Don't screw it up. Be on time.
Bats are going to have to show up again and the pen will need to be ready in the first inning on. Most likely the series is coming back to Boston. But hope they can wrap it up by out hitting Houston
You mean to call him Kimberly here?
Finish this tonight. Thank you.
Going to miss most of if not all of this one tonight. Missed game 1 as well. Damn life getting in the way of what's really important.
You mean to truncate “double digits” to “double d”?
Agreed on the first part (bats) but disagree about the pen. I think this may be the first time in the playoffs where the starter will have a long leash, maybe very long. I bet Cora might be hoping for Price to give him 6 IP, even if it means 4-5 ER.
If you offered me 6 IP and 4 ER right now, I'd probably take it
Wait. Who the hell was talking shit about Keith Foulke??
It's an elimination game for them. I think we can assume that everybody's available to do whatever they can.
Haha no sorry that’s my damned phone (and subsequent lack of attention)
There were a number of offenders in the last few pages of the game thread they were called out by a couple of upstanding SoSHers but I couldn’t find any contrite take back followup posts by the offenders. It was mainly as a result of a photo showing him out in the woods with some buddies and not in game shape
Echo the sentiments of another poster - wow what a game such a shame the scheduling doesn’t help it to get as widespread coverage to all markets
Fair play to all who endured that in real time it was stressful enough in highlights knowing the result
This game is all about Price and what his early innings tell Cora about how to manage the game within the context of the rest of the series.
Cora is going to have to feel this out, inning to inning. If Verlander is just on and Price is not, the game might end up as a bit of a Mulligan. Win it tonight if you can, but don't burn your entire bullpen to still lose 5-2 behind bad early pitching from Price and dominant pitching from Verlander.
I'd rather lose tonight 17-0 behind eight innings of Rodriguez than let any of these other arms get taxed more than they already are (and still lose). Verlander is probably going to make this an easy call.
It is really a luxury to be up 3-1 in this series, with two scheduled at Fenway.
Price should pitch the game of his life (or at least the season).
Sign me up for that.
I'll take 3IP and 3 ER, he was already on short rest and threw at least 30 pitches in the BP. He should be on a short leash and then you put Edro in there for 4-5 depending on game script. If we somehow get to Verlander, who is damn near perfect in the post season, then you give Edro a shorter leash but if the game is somewhat out of reach you save your bullets for game 6 and have Edro play the Wakefield game 3 role.
Fuck this, Price is going to win this game. Sox bats are relentless and they've seen Verlander a lot. Crush their fucking cheating souls, Mookie's going deep to lead it off.
This is Price's 2013 Lackey moment. Nut up, win, advance.
Credit where credit's due: actually a pretty good high-energy call by TBS's Anderson on that 10D catch. That said, does anyone know where I can find the Sox radio call?
Lackey out pitched him 2-1 in 2013 in Detroit. Price’s Lackey moment.
Imagine if Price can put in a legendary 7+ IP shutout with 3 hits 7Ks and a bullshit BB that was actually paint
Wouldn’t that be something now
It's in the Game 4 Game Thread a couple of times towards the end of the thread.
I think Price comes up big in this one and Cora will give Kimbrel another chance to finish it up. Let's really find out if it's the lack of work that's the problem.
Given the pitching matchup, I'd start Hembree. Force Verlander to go 2-3 innings and if Sox don't score or are trailing at that point, forfeit the game. See you in Boston. They lose Verlander for series and Sox still have Sale, Price and Eolvaldi to win of two games at home. Plus gives Barnes et al two days rest
I’m about a billion times more comfortable watching Price tonight with a 3-1 lead than if this series were 2-2. Maybe even a nonillion, decillion, or quindecillion times more. A big thank you to Benintendi for that.
Short rest and loosening up 18 hours before his start is likely just what Price needs. That and a Houston lineup that is under extreme pressure.
towards the end of last nights game thread. Castig fell out the chair.
or here if found it
Price gets his win tonight.
I think there was some of that last night. Cora has confidence in the offense. I think he thought that getting one more inning out of Porcello (so 4 instead of 3) was more important than keeping the lead at that point in the game. Of course there's always the risk that "giving up the lead" means a disaster happened, but I really doubt Cora cared much about being down 4-3.
I have to believe that he's looking at a combination of Price and ERod to give him exactly that.
From there, the moves become contingent on the game situation.
Both pens are pretty thin, yeah?
Sometimes autocorrect has a sense of humor. (I've noticed that as the default autocorrect for Kimbrel on my phone.)
Posnanski just posted a detailed analysis of the interference play on his Patreon with fantastic screen grabs and a timeline. He builds a good case that fan interference was the correct call.
It’s for subscribers, so I guess I shouldn’t post the whole thing, but here’s a chunk:
Say all you want about Cora’s moves here and there, but this team is so fucking resilient. They never get down and give up, they have the utmost confidence in themselves and their teammates.
Win tonight and regroup.
This is a nice article and all, but it also overworks what is obvious in a real time replay: the fans are leaning against the wall and leaning forward, resting their weight on the wall. From that alone you can tell that the contact point between Betts and the fans has to be over the wall (on the field side).
Looking forward to see Hembree - Workman - Edro getting this last 4 or 5 IPs tonight. House money tonight -- only need one more. Worst case we go back to Fenway with something in the tank for Brasier-Barnes-Kelly.
Too bad that in all the discussion re the apparent fan interference, folks missing the historic nature of Mookie's defense on the play.
Not to go all CHB but Price has such an amazing opportunity here.
This is as big of a “house money” game as you will ever get in the ALCS. Up 3-1 and coming home if you lose it. Relax, I don’t really buy “house money” but on the scale, this is as close as you get.
He’s on 3 days rest so he can pitch knowing he’s a hero if he does well and and has a bit of an excuse if not. Especially with last night’s weirdness/warming up.
He’s pitching in the better climate for him.
He doesn’t have the pressure of the intimate home crowd.
His team is on a roll and he gets to put a stamp on it.
David Price, this is your time.
that’s in there too. here’s the link (appparently not just for subscribers)
