Why is everyone assuming that the game plays out exactly the same if it’s called a HR?

Of course he is. I was wondering why everyone was so weirdly certain he wouldn't be.

David Price is the Red Sox' Game 5 starter, with a chance to go to the World Series

I'd fault him for spending Edro and Barnes on one batter each, and for leaving Porcello in too long. If the bullpen is short-handed and the starter doesn't have good stuff, then each reliever needs to go for 1+ innings. I thought he should have pulled Porcello earlier and given Edro 3-5 batters; then given Barnes 3-4 batters in the 8th inning.

But I'm delighted with the outcome, and love everyone in the dugout, manager, player and pitcher alike. :redwine:

There’s no way West calls it the way he did unless he sees the arm over the wall. He could have been wrong but that’s plainly what he thought he saw. I’ve seen nothing to say he was wrong or right.

Oh, let's be clear, he broke a couple times. It's just that Betts and Beni put him back together again like Humpty Dumpty.

Everyone complaining about the call is missing the fucking point and I don’t get it.

A fan reached over the wall and interfered with an outfielder trying to make a play. Full stop, end of discussion. Out.

Whether or not the ball was going to leave or if Mookie was going to catch it is entirely irrelevant.

Are you able to post the audio of it? I don’t have MLB radio and I’m in Boise.

I don't think I have seen Benni as excited as this ever before! What a catch!

To everyone moaning about Cora, Kimbrel, etc: Did anyone think this would be easy?

3-1 up, 1 win away from the WS and you're whining about a closer who hasn't blown a safe against two of this leagues best offenses and a manager that has pushed so many right buttons...

Is there any possible way that could have been ruled a home run? I thought it would have been a double if not an out because Mookie kept it in the yard with his glove? Is that wrong? Can you Bill Russell a home run to keep it in play?

Man is Sheffield an asshat. He was just talking about how the fan had no choice but to catch it and the ball was going to hit him directly in the chest....as the replay is happening and showing the fan stretch his arms out. “Most egregious call in baseball history” Stay classy Sheff!

After a few highlight views Bregman didn't crush it, tougher catch that Mooie's because it wasn't hit as hard.

All the hand wringing that Kimbrel didn’t pitch the 9th in Game 1. It probably would have turned out worse. Fucking Kimbrel.

Cora is playing 4D Space Stratego and 10D is playing great.

There was so much baseball in that game

Loved it, even as it slowly killed me.

And there are so many 2nd guesses available on Cora, but he rollin 7s

About 40 pages ago, I predicted a quiet mention that Barnes "tweaked" something and that's why he got pulled, but he'll make a miraculous recovery and be back tomorrow. It's coming.

If it hit a fans hand behind the wall first, then it’s a home run.

This whole thing is silly. The view from the left field camera is very obvious to anyone that wants to actually look at it. Which is why TBS never showed it during the game. Mookie is still a few feet from wall impact. His arm is barely extended back. The fans hand is about a foot from his glove. Do the math. Then his arm straightens and he impacts the wall. The fan was over the wall. I’m not even convinced it goes over the wall at all. It may have hit the top.

As soon as Kimbrel showed up on the mound we knew it wasn't going to be easy :p Of course everyone is thrilled at the gutsy play and the end result. But it felt like when an outfielder runs around in a circle 3 times and still catches the ball. A lot harder than maybe it needed to be.

If it only touched the glove, it stays in play.

One issue not discussed is where the actual boundary is. It is the inside of the wall not the outside.

    This.

You post 2004 fans have no fucking clue how many nut punch losses this team had in the playoffs and the World Series.

    You lucky bastards.

There are psychiatrists who bought mansions thanks to Red Sox fans trying to get over the 1986 World Series loss.

If playoff pressure is a real thing then he should be. Everyone expects him to get shelled and he has minimal bullpen behind him and he's facing Verlander, can't ask for much less pressure than a game everyone assumes you'll lose anyway.
