Charlie Morton was a mediocre NL pitcher for a decade and now, at age 34, he’s throwing up low 3’s in the AL?

This guy is clearly a cheater on a team full of them. Get this win and then let Sale close it out.

Morton hasn't pitched since September 30 and only pitched three innings that game and one inning on September 23. Have to think he's going to be rusty.

I want DrewDawg to be the Sox game thread starter for the rest of 2018. All we are asking is six more wins straight. Easy!

    Charlie Morton:
    2011: 171.2 IP, 110 Ks
    2018: 167.0 IP, 201 Ks

Eh? How does he go from 6.3 K/9 over his first nearly 900 IP, then suddenly 10.4 over last 300?

Allegedly the Astros front office and coaching staff saw something they could "fix" with him. Of course, back in the late 90s and early aughts, we heard of plenty of players who returned from the offseason all bulked up that they had been working out hard in places like Arizona where they got swole from pushing boulders up hills and doing military exercises for months.

Gotta think Bregman has something to do with that.

Probably the same way that some older pitchers suddenly find an extra 4 - 5 MPH on their fastball...

Ask Trevor Bauer. Flying to Houston in the morning and going to game 4. Was hoping for Sale but will have to settle for Playoff Porcello. At least I wont have to watch the corpse of Eduardo Nunez at 3rd

Was Núñez taken out because he was hurt? Otherwise, I never know who Cora is going to send out there. RHP, should be Devers though.

Late start tonight, boys and girls. 8.39 PM. Even Severino wouldn't be late for this one. Just don't come too early.

Especially compared to the 81 more games he needs to start for the Celtics.

I'm not expecting Morton to be very sharp today. In addition to not pitching in a real game with a lot of pressure, he started to fade in the 2nd half of the season. WHIP and ERA rose in the 2nd half, while his K/9 dropped. Not shocking given this is the most innings he has thrown in 7 years and that factors in him not taking his final two normal starts.

Same reason Cole went from 8 or 9 K/9 to 12.4 this year. The Pirates emphasized the "pitch to contact" crap and pushed their starters (even those with elite stuff) to pitch down in the zone. I'm a Sox fan in Pittsburgh. Morton was called "Ground Chuck" locally. Morton now throws a 4 seamer up and doesn't use his 2 seamer much. Nevertheless--Morton won't survive four innings tonight.

The likelihood of the Sox winning in a series that doesn't go seven increases dramatically if the Sox win tonight.

So win tonight motherfuckers, win tonight.

It's why they're called predictions, and not statements of fact.

But what that has to do with your use of "Big Dick Ricky," i haven't a clue

It's absolute garbage the west coast game is at 2pm local time and the east coast game is at 8:30pm local time for people in the North East. This throws away the rationale that it's important to start games so people on the west coast don't miss the beginning because they are at work.

It's brutal. The Dodger game ended at 2:17am last night. The Sox game tonight will end at 1am. It's fundamentally unwatchable, unless you want to throw away tomorrow.

IIRC nearly every ALCS game in 2004 ended past midnight...definitely were not fundamentally unwatchable

I think I averaged about 2 hours of sleep during 03 and 04 ALCS

And then tomorrow's Sox game could go well past midnight as well. It's tough for sure, hate it.

But, I'll watch anyway. I'll sleep in November. It just doesn't have to be like this.

That entire month of 2004 was definitely a blur, sir. But I was also 32 years old and I was going into the office at 7am every morning. It's rough.

I think the west coast getting the early game today is due to the three game set in LA being done and accounting for their travel schedule to Milwaukee, whereas the Sox have one more in Houston. Still sucks.

That is odd. The memo was widely circulated, it was posted online and on SoSH Slack too. Perhaps you weren't paying attention?

In any event, your language is triggering to those who are very self conscious about having a smaller Rick - they will tend to overcompensate in response.

Remember, size doesn't matter - its more about movement and location. Or at least that is what I have heard from guys like Rick Wise, Rick Honeycutt and Ricky Romero.
