Damn. How dare you frame my statement of an Astros' deficit as a potential downfall for the Sox? Damn. Cold.

There were about 10 Sox fans at a Tuesday afternoon game in Houston, and I was one. Lots of whohooing, lots of towels waved, less of both in the 8th. Football fans who have jumped on the bandwagon.

Good to see the blown call on Pearce’s ball wasn’t a factor. Eo was a stud.

We're 2-0 in ALCS games he doesn't pitch.

    We got this.

No joke. . . I’ve replayed the JBJ slam at least 20 times.

    The wall ball?

Yes. There are slow motion replays on twitter that appear to show the ball actually hit the wall.

Post game replay makes it seem pretty clear that he caught it. But who knows.

They won, so I’m not overly concerned.

Edit: OK, looked on a large(r) screened computer this morning and it does seem to hit the wall. Still not a big issue given the outcome, but yeah.

Wow. The broadcast replays seemed pretty definitive.

Someone please bump that thread from 2013 about which postseason slam is the most important in Red Sox history. This one needs to be an option.

It’s Ortiz, this one is nowhere near it.

    But I liked it anyway!

I would disagree. The one in game 2 of the 2013 ALCS erased a four-run deficit in the 8th with two out. The one in game 6 gave us the lead and eventually the pennant. JBJ’s slam broke open the game and enabled us to enjoy a stress-free 8th and 9th. Nice for sure but not as crucial as the others.

Did they ever statcast the JBJ slam?

That exit velocity had to be like 300mph

I’m so happy that Kemp’s catch or no catch is meaningless. That ball could have been on its way to clearing the wall and he could have jumped 19 feet and brought it down for all any of us care.

Yeah, just an interesting discussion point now after JBJ's shot.

Damon’s trumps all, has to. Drew’s and Papi’s are pretty equally next.

I worried until the Slam that we’d all regret that Pearce didn’t hit it a foot higher.

Sox probably win that game if Damon hits a sac fly there. Ortiz saved their ass.

Let it not be forgotten that after the defensive screw-up, Devers stepped up and cranked an 0-2 2 out single to extend the inning. He caught a tough grounder, and certainly flubbed it, but didn’t let it tank the rest of his game. I’m sure Cora noticed. He seems like he would notice something like that.

What’s interesting there is it seems very unlikely that the clank noise could have been the ball hitting the wall in the glove. I was skeptical but now I think maybe a hit.

I think the padding in the glove would have caused more of a dull thud, too.

And we know they can't win a game with either of those guys starting. Game 4 is pretty much a must win for Houston and a house money game for the Sox. I expect a loose team.

Agreed. He showed a lot of poise after that miscue. Worked the walk earlier and then the base hit.

The Red Sox have a great chance tomorrow. The Astros are not nearly as good against right handed pitching and Porcello has looked great in the playoffs so far. If the Red Sox can score early, you have to wonder if the Astros will finally start to press.

The % is based on how hard and at what angle the ball was hit, not what part of the park it's hit to. Bradley pulled it and hit a homer. If it's hit to center it's an easy out.

Just as I was typing this Granderson hit a ball similarly as Bradley's but it was a flyout to the track in center.

I don't know about house money. Astros can be back in this series very fast. no let up, and they won't.

Yeah, except if he hit it to center, he would've had different timing on the swing (and likely hit it off a different part of the bat,) which would've literally changed everything else about it: the angle, the EV, the distance, etc.

So yeah, I'm going with bullshit.

At the end of the day, it’s a small sample size.

I must say: if this plus the double the other night means that JBJ is heating up, that is bad news for the Champs.
