You realize you’re only 4.5 up on the A’s, right? You know if they catch you then you have to fly across the country to play one game for your season on an offense-killing cricket field, right?

You are the NEW YORK YANKEES. You once turned an actual MLB franchise into your own, captive AAAA farm team. That team was the A’s. How did you get away with that? Who cares?? You do what you want.

Billy Beane is a has been. Oakland is becoming Brooklyn, except twice as annoying. The Bay Area has higher housing prices than NY—what they think they’re better than you?

Put an end to this madness. This series matters. Crush the A’s and the first WC spot is virtually guaranteed. No mercy.

    CC vs Cahill. 4pm.

I am a great believer in the WHYDML* stat.
Cahill has not been good lately. I don't know why.
He only went 5 and 3.1 innings, respectively, against the Twins and the Astros, giving up 5 and 3 earned runs.
On the other hand, Oakland loves to play at home.
Should be an interesting series. (Don't forget to notice how handsome Lowrie is without his helmet.)

It would be kind of cool* if we had a game thread with an asterisk on every post.

    *annoying, but maybe entertaining?

Kansas City A's, of course, who did move to become the Oakland A's. Yankees got 2X MVP Roger Maris from the KCA's.

Mantle and Maris had their one big year together in 1961. They had 115 combined. I think their next best was 79 in 1960. They had trouble staying healthy after 1961. Kind of like Judge this year.

Gleyber wins AL Player of the Week* for the second time this year, .478/.571/.870 last week.

*not Rookie of the Week, this is much more impressive.

Cutch singles, steals, takes third on throwing error, scores on fly to center by Hicks.

Hechevarria dives to stop infield hit, saves a run. Temporarily, no doubt.

Walks the next guy, Matt Olson. 29 pitches, 1 out. Fat Man shrinking in a big game again.

Great relay by Hechevarria to get the runner at third.

CC: don’t bunt on me but I’ll show up your big home run hitter when I strike him out. What a two-face.

I think he was screaming at himself, he slammed his glove in the dugout too. You guys sure have a lot of anger for fans of a team that have won two trillion games already.

CC actually doing a good job in the third, covering up for two defensive mistakes.

Maybe it was at himself, but on TV it looked like the other. Maybe you’re right because Davis just walked back to the dugout. I don’t think he ever lives down the anger for bunting on him though. Who does he think he is?

They really miss Didi and Judge, Hicks is having trouble cutting balls off today somehow but normally he is very solid. Andujar is a disaster, no argument there.

CC pulled with one out in fourth after another double. He was knocked out in Fenway in the opener of the four-game sweep, after being staked to a 4-0 lead, and now he tanks against Oakland. Sad to watch the big horse breaking down in crunch time.

Rickey and Reggie at the game, on the A’s side. In NY, maybe the opposite.

I’m not sure what you do about Sanchez. Yankees always seem to be solid defensively behind the plate, but not with this guy.

(Not Lee) Trivino strikes out the side. The golfer was Trevino.

    Is, still with us.

Actually he is fine defensively, a few extra passed balls but his framing and his arm are both above average. He needs to start hitting again.

This is interesting because Balboni got his first real shot at extended time when he was 27 and Voit is 27 now. NY will bump him next season, though.
