Sanchez crossed up yet again.
That passed ball should wrap up the league championship for Sanchez.
I thought Hicks pulled up short after hitting the bag. Precautionary?
Voit and Gray screw up a play at first. Still no outs. First and third.
DP and game is tied.
Sanchez stabs at almost every pitch that is not coming right at his glove.
I tell you Sanchez is regressing as a catcher and on this goddamn plastic all we are going to do is acquire more injuries...
Cutch with another good AB capped by a fly to center. Not too many good ABs these days.
We're due for another catwalk carom soon.
Judge walks with two outs, bringing up Gardner against the lefty, Yarbrough. Gardy has something to prove.
The Tampa catcher is also a butcher.
Yogi is doubled over laughing at these 2 catchers
That's funny. Gardy bloops a single to score Judge, who moved up on a sloppy passed ball.
Nice to get a run from a passed ball for a chance. Good job, Brett!
Mike Stanton up against a lefty. He used to own lefties until Abbey jinxed him.
Mike doubles in Gardner for a 3-1 lead. Now hitting .333 with his former name.
Stanton finally tags one, stupid greedy baserunning but we'll take it.
Mickey tells Yogi they never could have caught his knuckleball.
Don't stick too long with Gray here, please.
Boom. Chad Green blows away Rays. Fans the side. Looked like 2017 Green. I'd take another inning of that.
I forgot all about Jordan Montgomery. Just saw him in the dugout.
Gleyber gets hit in ankle. Coup reaches for another pin to stick in his eyeball.
Sanchez up, trying to end the inning again. Quickly falls behind 0-2 and then grounds to short. Never saw a young power hitter go from great to feeble so fast.
Any update on Hicks?
Sore hamstring, probably precautionary but who knows.
He has ended three of the first six innings, all with runners on.
They had Robertson warming hard already, I think Boone is treating this like the actual wild card game and using everyone.
Good thing his defense is solid. Oh, wait!
Hicks left the game with left hamstring tightness.
Rage against the dying of the light old man
Wow. Gardner bounces off the CF wall after gloving a deep fly to center, saving two runs. Coup is probably scraping himself off the ceiling right now.
This is poetry, Coup.
That was a great catch, hope he's ok.
Cutch is in good form tonight.
Judge doubles in Cutch. 4-1.
Mike Stanton up.
Cuocco just tried to catch a pitch barehanded! Hope Sanchez wasn't watching.
Mike Stanton grounds to short. Inning over. Chapman pitching bottom of seventh. Good idea.
So Chapman-Betances-Britton is the plan going forward.
I think it depends on matchups somewhat, and if Chapman gets his velocity back, he could go back to the 9th, although there is still the massive issue that BOS crushes him pretty much always.
If Chapman finishes strong, he is the playoff closer. You insult the guy by going with Britton.
He can’t close at this velocity.
96-98 with the fastball.
If he keeps throwing that slider with tilt, he will close. That pitch is devastating. Cone loved it.
14 ERs against BOS in 14 innings over the past two seasons, 33 baserunners. If he is hitting 103, you could maybe think about it but no way at 98.
If 103 doesn't work against Boston, maybe leaning on the slider will.
I need to look up Britton's playoff track record. One year?
Britton only has 2014 playoff experience, before he blossomed. It wasn't pretty.
Tough call. Cashman, Rothschild and Boone will decide. Let's see how this week plays out. You guys could be right.
Sanchez ends his fourth inning, yikes.
Britton isn't quite the same guy he was at his peak a few years ago, but he has very good numbers against BOS (which admittedly only matters if they make it through OAK).
Sanchez looks awful at the plate. Romine has to start tomorrow night.
You want to talk about closer? How about catcher?
It's worth noting that TB only has two hits tonight, do we give Sanchez any credit there?
Romine also hasn't hit at all in the last three months, .596 OPS in 181 PAs since June 13.
