Sheffield making his debut?
Looks that way.
Looks like it's going well.
He has great stuff, still needs some work on control. I will do a postseason roster thread once NY actually clinches, would be ballsy to take the inexperienced 22 year old but there is probably a spot or two not locked down yet.
Justus was nervous, squeezed by the ump, just missed giving up a grand slam to Mookie, then got him to ground into game-ending DP. The kid looked really relieved.
Yes, from the clip they showed of him taking the phone call of getting called up to the interviews I've read, this came to mind and that was even before he loaded the bases.
Not that I blame him, debuting against the Red Sox with both Sabathia and Price (two role models of his) both in attendance, plus his parents, grandparents, glad he managed to get through it without giving up a run (barely).
if that Severino shows up in the ALDS, you guys will have a good chance to advance. biggest thing of the night
From memory, I have NY now at 13-4 at home this season against the other playoff teams:
That and Price on the other side, that's a huge matchup dilemma for Cora if they do face each other. He didn't pitch badly tonight, but it is clear that this lineup is in his head at full strength. Obviously all three HRs tonight were cheapies, but if you go back and look at the July 1 game highlights (I just did) not one of the five they hit then was cheap, including two absolute blasts to center by Judge and Hicks.
he two-hit the Astros over 6+ at Fenway. I don't think Cora will deviate from Price, the 60+ extra ft in RF can be a big difference.
he fixed his shit since that July 1 game, overall.
I hope you're right! I would personally definitely go with Sale/Eovaldi/Porcello to start and I would even lean towards E-Rod for game 4, but that is much more based on how I think they best matchup against NY and less how they are pitching overall. Eovaldi is the polar opposite of Price, he gets crushed by everyone but NY, I don't know how you can't go to him after how he has dominated NY twice now but I know it's probably unlikely.
Anyway, I will stop talking now...
Yea, starting Price would be an astronomically stupid move against the Yankees. I’m not sure I agree with Eovaldi at the 2 but I don’t give a flying ostrich what Price has done since July. He’ll fold like a lawn chair.
They won't pitch Price in NY - so if he's going to pitch Price, it will be this rotation IMO.
Sale 10/5 (Fenway)
Price 10/6 (Fenway)
Eovaldi 10/8 (NY)
Porcello or Rodriguez 10/9 (NY)
Sale 10/11 (Fenway) with Price (4 days rest), Eovaldi (2 days rest, throw day), Brasier and Kimbrel as the only potential pitchers to throw. No one else in this horrid bullpen will touch the baseball in a game 5.
I see the logic there, interestingly that would likely match up Price and Severino yet again.
Brendan Kuty tweeted that Andujar beat Luke Voit for 1st in the 2015 Florida State League Home Run Derby. That is high A, so three levels each in three years. If Cashman got a cost-controlled Bird replacement for Shreve and Gallegos, I will be impressed.
If that helps you sleep at night, ok.
Get past Oakland first then we’ll talk
