Ah, July 1. Let me refresh your memories, July 1 was the last game these two teams played in the Bronx before last night, but so much has happened since then.

Luis Severino, through July 1: 1.98 ERA
David Price, through July 1: 4.28 ERA

Luis Severino, since July 1: 6.34 ERA
David Price, since July 1: 2.22 ERA

Not good trends for Yankee fans, but July 1, ah what a game that was. That was also Price vs. Severino, Severino pitched 6.2 shutout innings and Price gave up 8 ERs and 5 HRs (!!!) in just 3.1 innings, his worst game of the season.

Judge homered, Torres homered, Hicks hit two and Kyle Higashioka even added one. NY should be starting six guys today who started in that game (Hicks, Judge, Stanton, Gregorius, Torres, Andujar) and replacing Bird/Higashioka/Gardner with Voit/Sanchez/McCutchen. Sanchez has 5 HRs in 12 career ABs against Price, that seems good.

Also thanks in part to Sox castoff Ty Buttrey and his 5 out save, NY has a 3 game lead in the loss column on OAK with 12 to play, and NY also has the tiebreaker.

I believe that the Red Sox are vastly overrated because of how bad the league is. Unfortunately, that also means I have to believe our record is inflated and we are overrated too. So, let’s be the overrated underdog?

We spend a lot of time examining the flaws of the Yankees but Red Sox fans are also seriously worried about their team's bullpen. I bet the Astros fans are worried, too, and perhaps a bit smug.
I read a nice description of the Yankees as a "flawed 100-win" team which leads to your point about the Red Sox. There are some bad teams in this league whom the good teams fattened up on. The Yanks were 13-6 against Toronto despite losing the final two games.
No question that the 162-game grind beat up the Yankees. But there is time to regroup for the postseason, where playing one game over .500 in each series will win the World Series.

Best lineup of the year? Gleyber still 9th, though.

    McCutchen LF
    Judge RF
    Hicks CF
    Stanton DH
    Didi SS
    Andujar 3B
    Sanchez C
    Voit 1B
    Torres 2B

If anyone is overrated it’s Cleveland. 44-23 vs the lousy AL Central. 40-43 vs the rest of baseball.

The defense has cost us a lot of games this year.

If they can get that under control, I have no worries

    How do you fix defense?

Judge and Stanton both fouled back fat pitches in the first inning. But Price looked good, too. His ability to spot pitches on both corners is excellent.

You get lucky for a stretch of 15 games and worry about it in the offseason.

This lineup looks deep again. Cutch working the count as well as Gardner ever did.

Nunez is worse than Andujar! I forgot how much he sucked on D. 3-0.

First rookie 3B ever with 25 HRs and 40 2Bs.

In this era of all or nothing hitters, he may not be the last. Still, it is a great achievement. Andujar has been pretty darn consistent all season long. He just smells double out of the box. Humpback liner to left, he's off and running.

Voit has 8 HRs for NY, if he gets to 10, NY will be the first team ever to have 12 guys in double figures.

Yanks have been using 13 pitchers all season. So that leaves 12 guys on the bench. Partial season from Voit is helpful.

Although Tyler Austin would have almost certainly gotten there also if they'd just kept him in Voit's spot.

Stanton is hitting some bullets foul this series, they said his upper deck foul shot last night late went 471 feet. The balls in play are still pretty weak, though.

I bet Austin is still pissed about all the chances Bird has been given over the past few years.

Austin's had his share also, he never stayed especially healthy either and his K percentage against RHP was unplayable. He has cooled off massively in MIN after that blazing hot start, .529 OPS since August 28.

Even when Andujar makes a nice defensive play, he spikes Didi.

Classic YS homer to first row in right. Umps review Voit's 2-run bunt. Home run! Cora gets Price, who pitched really well tonight. He should be happy with his effort.

Yanks have a bunch of righty hitters who go the other way on fastballs away. Just the opposite of leftys tattooing the Wall in Fenway. Except they are doubles in Fenway and homers in YS.

I am pretty sure that opposing teams have hit more short porch HRs in NY this year than NY has, but it is 3-0 tonight (so far) and I will take it.

And Bryan Crantson aka Tim Whatley is in the audience
